Earlier this month, we told you about the historic arrest warrant issued for the President of Sudan, related to the genocide currently going on in Darfur.
Well, on March 4th, the day of the warrant, the Sudanese government immediately set about expelling humanitarian aid agencies from the Sudanese region of Darfur. Thirteen international and three national agencies have been totally forced out of the region, and millions of Darfuris could soon be without water, food, or medical assistance.
The U.S. is one of the only countries to officially declare the crisis in Darfur a genocide and members of Congress have 24 hours left to sign letters to three Sudanese allies pressuring them to take action in Darfur. The allies are the Chinese president, the Secretary General of the Arab League and the Chairman of the African Union – all leaders who have a working relationship with the government of Sudan and the power to do something about its shocking policies.
You can do something too. Check out the video below and decide if you think humanitarian groups are needed to end and prevent genocides like the one in Darfur. You can call 1-800-Genocide to let our leaders know that Sudan’s actions are unacceptable to the American people. The hotline can connect you directly to your Representative’s office and the deadline for them to sign these letters is tomorrow at noon.
Let us know, what do you think of Sudan's recent move to kick all aid groups out of Darfur? Will you call your representative about this? Comment below!
