McCain to Pick a Woman for VP!

Ever heard of Governor Sarah Palin from Alaska? Yeah, neither had we. But in a huge shock to the GOP ticket, it looks like she'll be John McCain's running mate for the presidency!

McCain is totally trying to steal Barack's thunder from last night!

This is a huge shake-up to the Republican ticket, which was getting criticism for seeming stodgy and old compared to Barack Obama. It's also a clear attempt to go after moderate Democrats who miss Hilary.

It's still a little fishy though. She's been a Governor for less than 2 years and before that was a mayor of a town of only 9,000. She's met John McCain only twice.

A Shoe-in for Women Voters?

Not so much. When Democrat Geraldine Ferraro ran for vice president in 1984 (the first woman on a major party ticket), she and Walter Mondale lost the women’s vote by 12 percentage points to Ronald Reagan and George Bush.

Who She Is

  • The first female Governor of Alaska
  • At 44, she's the youngest Governor of Alaska ever
  • She's also the most popular governor in America, with an approval rating of around 90 percent.
  • A lifetime member of the NRA
  • A mother of 5
  • Got a B.S. in Journalism from the University of Idaho in 1987
  • Her husband is an oil production operator on Alaska's North Slope

Where She Stands

  • Opposes abortion rights
  • Supports drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Reserve
  • She is an Evangelical Christian who strongly supports teaching Creationism in schools.
  • Her online bio says her main issues are "education and workforce development, public health and safety, and transportation and infrastructure development."

Breaking Update: CNN allegedly broke this story by having a bunch of 23 year-olds staking out the private planes at the Minneapolis airport see what Republican came into town!

The NRA? Ewwwwwww

Wow! A woman as VP. And a black man on the other side. What a cool day to be an American -- whoever wins -- history will be made. Will be tough to choose, right?

Not tough for me to choose. America is a free country. Anyone ever heard of the separation of Church and State? Well, with her anti-abortion and anti-gay marriage she certainly isn't supporting what this country was built on. America is a free country and I think that it should stay that way with equal rights for everyone. What is so hard about that? Also, the fact that her husband is in the oil business makes me a little suspicious. Also, she's a member of the NRA. Okay, people be smart. Obama is lobbying to make America a fair country again. They are lobbying to suppress human rights! Please please please choose Obama. I want our troops home. =[ and if you want to disagree with I'd be glad to hear from you.

Well I diagree with you ArielJ. Anti-abortion is a good thing. Yes its a free country but does that mean we have the right to take a life. By the time an abortin takes place the baby already has organs and a heart and thoughts. It's proven that a baby knows when something bad is about to happen. Abortion is no different from allowing your baby to be born and then shooting it or something. You wouldn't do it right? And as for the anti-gay marriage rights your talking about, the Bible strictly says marriage is supposed to be between a man and a woman. This country was not built on the right to murder it was born on the right to voice your opinion and have the chance to change the world for the better, which is exactly what Sarah Palin is doing. Obama on the other hand is taking the American flag off of airplanes. How American is that really? And he is supposssed to be our country's leader? I mean, get real. The way he is acting how can you even think he supports America? Really?

This should be an interesting election.

Maybe you should read up on your subject instead of trusting e-mails you find in your inbox sent form your 34 closest friends.
First off, EVERYONE removes the American flag on their private jet. Both Obama and Mccain took off the flag and put their own symbol on there. It is a normal procedure for people running for president.

And, all you had for us not having the CHOICE to have abortions or gay marriages was "because it's in the Bible." That was exactly the other person's point. We need to separate church and state. "Because it says it in the Bible' is not a legitimate enough reason why we can't choose to have either of these things.
Oh, no, you had another point on abortion. 'It's like having a baby than shooting it'. Um, no, it's not. When an abortion is performed, 'babies' are sacks of cells. They cannot feel any pain. But, if you'd rather have an unwanted baby live a life where both the mother and baby are miserable, go right ahead. I won't stop you.
