Palin's passport issue

The race for president has gotten increasingly nasty over the past few weeks with both parties accusing the other of spreading lies and the McCain camp slamming Obama for an alleged sexist comment against Palin involving the phrase, "lipstick on a pig." The Democrats are now jumping on Palin's limited travel around the world.

The NY Times revealed recently that Ms. Palin didn't receive her passport until July 2007 when she had to get a passport before she visited members of the Alaska National Guard stationed in Kuwait. Since receiving her passport, she has visited exactly four countries -- Canada, Iraq, Kuwait, and Germany.

Do Something wants to hear your opinion on this. How important is understanding other countries and cultures to having international political experience? Do you think politicians need to see other countries to understand diplomatic relationships? Or does a knowledge of foreign relations not require travel outside the U.S.? Post a comment to share your thoughts!
