Polar bears on a deadline

The Obama administration is pushing a deadline about a decision on polar bear protection. They are deciding whether they should allow government agencies to cite the Endangered Species Act, which protects polar bears, for putting limits on greenhouse gases from power plants, cars, and factories…even if they create pollution thousands of miles from where the polar bears live.

The Bush admin decided that no action outside of the bear’s habitat could be considered endangering, but this decision was opposed by environmentalists and Congress.

Business groups are concerned that using this act to regulate gases and pollution could cut their industrial and power plant emissions.

Interior Secretary Ken Salazar has been authorized to rescind the Bush administration’s rule, and has been weighing the issue for the last two months, but the deadline for this action is tomorrow.

But, you don’t have to wait until tomorrow to act. Let lawmakers know how you feel about this and other environmental issues, then see what you can do to decrease global warming.

What do you think Obama, Salazar and the Obama administration should do? Is it over the top to limit greenhouse gases for the sake of the polar bear survival or does the polar bear deserve protection from things happening out of its habitat too?

Hello , well im going to state my opinon.. Regardless of me being twelve has nothing to do with it. Polar bears are a delicate animal of this earth.. Lots of people like them, the gases coming from these green houses are not good for them.. And yes i absolutely think they should have a protection plan outside of the polar bear enviorment.Because, no one can tell the future, and how would they know if anything happens, because they want have a protection plan.. I also think its pretty darn crazy for congress and enviormentalist to turn that down.. I mean do they even care about our animals. Not only is it our animals at sake but its our earth also.. There going to have a really bad problem in the future when poar bears become extinct and the new generation of childen want know anything about them.. So i think they should try to approve it while they have a chance.. So i hope many people take a stand for our worlds polar bears.. thanx for listning=Ebony M.

Okay, I think they should push the act to be put in action! We need our future children of the world to be able to here, and see them. But their endangerment is not just our fault! For millions of years the Earth has been changing way before machines, and so on have been invented and used. Though some of it IS our fault, not all is. The earth will change on its own, as it always has. But we need to take care of our earth, because there isn't another Earth close enough.
