Poor hit hardest as the Earth heats up

Earlier this week, Oxfam released a new report tying poverty and climate change together. Basically, the report shows how the effects climate changes, like global warming, impact people in third-world communities a lot more and harder than people in the developed world.
The report reads: “Climate change is happening today and the world’s poorest people, who already face a daily struggle to survive, are being hit hardest.”
Why? For one, poor farmers can no longer depend on seasons and seasonal weather, so they’re losing crops to sudden heavy rain or heat waves. These crops are often the only source of income they have to support their families. Other issues are also related to access to food and clean water.
Oxfam wants developed countries to give more aid to poor countries, and take on tough climate policies that will put a stop to the changes that are devastating impoverished regions. The report warned: “Without immediate action 50 years of development gains in poor countries will be permanently lost.”
So, what can you do about it? First, you can stop global warming, starting today. Next, you can also take steps to end poverty.
This summer, you can help the 13 million children in the US that live in poverty by getting them the basic supplies they need to go back to school thru the Ma href="http://www.dosomething.org/dosomething101/home#ds101">DS101 campaign!
