Five teenage girls from Chicago suburbs are facing a slew of charges, two are being charged as adults, in connection with an alleged attack on a girl that was caught on video and aired on television.
Officials say that the June 2 incident stemmed from an "ongoing" problem involving the “misuse” of a car that belongs to one of the attackers.
The 17-year-old victim was held down and beaten while she was cut, burned and pummeled.
A bystander used his cell phone to capture the event, which later aired on local television. An anonymous call reported a disturbance but the teens were gone when police arrived.
The attackers then allegedly went on myspace to brag about what they'd done.
The incident is stirring a dialogue about bullying and the bystanders who stand by idle and do nothing – don’t report it to authorities or adults or anyone.
What do you think can be done about bullying? Is it just a part of growing up? What about those bystanders that just watch and do nothing? Head to the forum to give us your ideas and opinion.
