Referring to undocumented students he met while volunteering at Menlo Park School, Mark Zuckerberg recently stated at a San Francisco screening of "Undocumented: A Film By An Illegal Immigrant Undocumented American" that: "No matter where they were born, they are going to be tomorrow's entrepreneurs and people creating jobs in this country. These are issues that don't just touch our part of the industry, but really touch a whole country."
This screening on August 5th was the first time that Zuckerberg spoke about what FWD.us, the advocacy organization he co-founded, is doing. Sponsored by FWD.us along with Define American, the film tells the story of Jose Antonio Vargas, an undocumented Pulitzer-winner Journalist.
During the event, the head of Facebook introduced Vargas, who was put on a plane from the Philippines 20 years ago aiming for a better life. In 2011, the journalist made the bold and courageous decision to reveal his immigration status in a NY Times article after lots of thought, fear, and advice from activist friends about starting Define American, the organization sponsoring the film.
