A N.J. middle school has issued a crack down, not against drugs but HUGS.
Matawan-Aberdeen Middle School Principal Tyler Blackmore announced (via loudspeaker) that hugs were banned, following the excessive “incidents of unsuitable, physical interactions” by sixth and eighth graders.
According to School Superintendent David Healy, it’s the responsibility of the district to teach students what constitutes appropriate touching. However, despite the rule those caught hugging won’t be suspended.
“It’s stupid, I’ve never heard of such a thing. Why can’t you hug? That’s how we grew up, with affection," One mother told Steve Sandberg, radio host of 1010 WINS.
Regardless, Healy believes Principal Blackmore took the right actions.
What can you do?
