On this day 49 years ago (August 28, 1963) Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his “I Have a Dream” speech to thousands gathered at the Lincoln Memorial for the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom.

In honor of this iconic address that became a critical turning point in the civil rights movement we’ve put together a list of action guides that help promote peace, understanding, and tolerance. Add one of these to your list of goals to accomplish this new school year!

  1. Host a Speed-Meeting Diversity Exercise
  2. Lead a Crossing-The-Line Exercise
  3. Promote Understanding with Education
  4. Plant a Peace Pole
  5. Lead a Religious Tolerance Activity
