Twelve years ago terrorist attacks on New York City and Washington D.C. saw two planes bring down the World Trade Center, and another cause extensive damage to the Pentagon. Thousands of lives were lost that tragic September morning. It’s a day that will never be forgotten, but also one that taught us how resilient the human spirit is.
Today, families of the 9/11 victims gathered for the memorial ceremony at Ground Zero in NYC where the World Trade Center once stood. In its wake, the “Freedom Tower” (1 World Trade Center) has been erected. Standing at 1,776 feet tall, the building will be the tallest in the Western Hemisphere. And also, a standing tribute that can be seen for miles to the nearly 3,000 people killed.
As we remember those lost, we’re also grateful for the brave men and women – the firefighters and police officers – who first responded to the scene.
