Stand Up For Rights Of 'Half The Sky'

Best-seller Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide, by renowned journalists Nicholas Sparks and Sheryl WuDunn, has sparked a global movement.

Did you know that women perform 66 percent of the world's work, produce 50 percent of the food, but earn ONLY 10 percent of the income and own 1 percent of the property? (We did the math. It doesn't add up.)

Readers have been encouraged to raise awareness by joining the fight against oppression of women and girls. And Students Rebuild spearheaded a video initiative to promote the film, which will premiere on PBS this October.

The org asked young women and girls to submit video clips saying “I am Half the Sky” or holding up a sign with those words. The “Half the Sky” four-hour TV series highlights the brave women and girls who challenge the difficult circumstances they live under. (Woot! Girl power kicks ass.)

Check out the premiere Oct. 1 and 2.
