Known for his crazy stunts, “Jackass” star Steve-O is goin’ apes over this reintroduced animal welfare bill.
The Great Ape Protection and Cost Savings Act (H.R. 1513/S.810) looks to stop experimentation on chimps, gorillas, gibbons, bonobos, and orangutans. The bill will also help these “great apes” retire to sanctuaries, advance medical research, and cut millions of dollars from the federal budget.
“Many people know me as the guy who intentionally harmed himself over and over on the show ‘Jackass,’” Steve-O wrote in a letter to Sen. Barbara Boxer, seeking her support. “But I am actually very serious about some things—including protecting chimpanzees and other animals from being intentionally harmed.”
An impressive number of celebs, including Ellen DeGeneres and James Franco, have also lent their voices (or pens) in support of this bill. And over 175 U.S. lawmakers have already signed on as cosponsors. Tots Amaze-balls!
Especially because it’s helping a cause that’s dear to so many of us—animals.
What can you do?
