Our nation's capital gets green

In March, thousands of eco-activists took to the streets of Washington D.C. to demand that a 99-year-old U.S. Capital Power Plant stop burning coal to heat the offices of our senators and congressmen.

Well, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced Friday the power plant won’t be seeing a 100th year of coal-burning. The plant will stop burning coal and switch over to cleaner natural gas. Even though natural gas is still a fossil fuel that releases CO2 into the atmosphere, it’s much cleaner and better for the environment than coal.
