at-risk

the problem:

I am helping Thurston County, working closely with a foster care program, and anyone in the community that would like help, to alleviate at-risk youth. I want school drop out rates to become the nation's lowest. I would want children to turn to friends and family rather than alcohol or drugs. And I want children living in a single parent home, where that single parent works all day, to have a friend to turn to in times of need.

I would like to set up a non profit business that does not pay it's CEO's $200,000.000 or more, and unlimited bonuses, but actually works day and night to fight our community and worlds problems, so our children don't have to.

why it's important:

My Family Friend Program, builds strong connectins with youth and volunteers, to form lasting, trusting, relationships that will inspire youth to become more! We offer academic support, education exploration, sporting events, mentorship, FUN, confidence, friendship, and guidance!

the plan of action:

I plan to host local fundraisers to get the funding to background check the already 25 college student and adult volunteers I have in the community. I plan to find local business to donate time to show interested children their career field. I will set up a sports team once we have reached 50 youth being helped. Youth will be more involved with the community, will have better confidene. Currently they have less anger and behavioral problems in school.

how you can get involved:

By volunteering, donating, being a wonderful uncle, aunt, brother, sister, friend, or whatever you can be to the people in your life that need it!

Kids Off The Block, a prominent community based youth organization in the Roseland Community of Chicago, IL, has ignited a passion across the city in response to an epidemic of youth violence that has claimed the lives of our children in the past year. We are embarking on our greatest challenge yet, the launching of our Citywide Campaign called “Save A Teen / Do Something”. This new Youth Anti-Violence Crime Prevention Campaign will develop sustainable processes and relationships that will address the violence, and social conditions that face youth in Chicago and across this nation. Youth (especially high school age youth) who choose to advocate in an organized body, must also receive social support that can be leveraged into opportunities to overcome their circumstances. We will build a Coalition to save our teens and provide them the resources to change their lives “literally”, and combat violence on a citywide level. To break the cycle of youth violence in 2008 we must form a coalition consisting of caring adults; city officials, law enforcement, community leaders, religious leaders, politicians and parents.

Valdimir Joseph founded Inner Strength, an organization based in Atlanta, GA. After being left homeless at age 13, Valdimir put himself through college and started Inner Strength to tutor, mentor and provide hiking and camping experiences for “at-risk” young men in inner-city Atlanta. Valdimir helped improve school attendance, increase graduation rates and reduce youth-related crime.
