Camp Excellence

My name is Bradford Hall and I am a part-time Student Clerk at Sallye B. Mathis Elementary School in Jacksonville, Florida. The school is an inner-city school, where over 90 percent of the students are considered "economically disadvantaged." As a result, the Principal (Gwen Crutchfield) and I sat down to have a conversation about how do we involve the community's children in enrichment programs that will enhance their educational skills and abilities.

It is a place where mentally and physically challenged children live and recieve the services they need to be as healthy and as happy as they could be. St. Joseph's also provides maternity and adoption services to the community. St. Joseph's also provides outpatient care to both children and adults. My brother has a form of autism called Asperger's Syndrome. He has recieved outpatient treatment from St. Joseph's. My brother loves to look and flowers and watch birds.

Summer Inclusion Camp Project

Four graduate special education majors are planning a summer camp inclusion project for children with autism. We are researching summer camps in the Philadelphia area (PA and NJ) who are open to including children with ASD into their programs. We are building a training module for use for camp counselors and teens interested in volunteering as support assistants to these children with ASD. We are also developing a brochure which identifies inclusive camps for parents of children with autism.

iC.A.R.E (Community and Relief Efforts)

I want to provide community beautification through the planting of flowers, trees, putting up gates, and trash clean up. I also want to have programs for the youth ages 7-16, in which there will be reading, writing, mathametics, socialable skills, and the importance of knowing themselves. We also want to have trips to museums, zoos, art galleries, amusement parks, etc., in the hope that it will expand their minds and give them a broader look at life. I think this is very much needed in a lot of the areas, in and around Atlanta.
