Child Soldiers

the problem:

A Family Community is a program I am desigining to benefit every individual in our community, not only residents and locals, but the community as a whole. This includes surrounding areas and even alternate states. We aim to provide Disater education, job readiness, disater preparedness seminars, dating volience information, a place of refuge for volience over comers, a place for homeless individuals to get food, and clothing and opportunities for job search, and job placement. We want to prevent teen pregnancy, but all the same provide help to those who have already had children. We promote family stablility. We want to educate individuals on healthy eating, and living a healthy lifestyle as well. We plan to this not only by branching out and starting partneships with exsisting organizations, but by putting in hard work, and sweat ourselves as well. We plan to involve individuals that seek help in unimaginable ways.

why it's important:

This is imporatnt to me because, I grew up in a single parent home; and felt sad and alone. I want individuals to understand that not every house hold is the same, and that it is okay to be different. I understand the importance of education, and i am seeking to futher my education. I want every individual that I encounter to understand this concept as well.

the plan of action:

*Conduct meetings with community leaders(i.e. Community pastors, non-profit organizations, mayor)
*Get Schools involved( with the job I already have I have easy access to recruiting teens, and volunteers)
*Get the community aware.....(i.e.: Facebook, local news, news paper)
*Recruit Volunteers/ Board members (i.e. Church goers)
*Set up banking account
*locate a building for headquaters (i.e.: unused city building, or church building)
* Contact local food banks set up patnerships
*start partnership with local DHR

how you can get involved:

Individuals can help by contributing non perishable items, volunteering, making donations, and participating in the program

the problem:

In my project, I hope to help end Africa's longest running war. In Central Africa and surrounding areas, there are children between the ages of 7-12 that are being abducted from their homes and forced to fight in a war that has lasted 26 years. The children are being abducted by a group of soldiers called the LRA, led by one man who thinks God is telling him to force these kids to fight and kill, starting with their families. This man's name is Joeseph Kony.

why it's important:

This is important to me, because it's something that shouldn't have even happened, and for something that should have never happened, it's been going on for far two long. This war has been going on for 26 years and is still happening. When I was the age of these children, I was sitting at home watching tv and enjoying being a kid. These kids have been FORCED to grow up and forget everything they've learned about morals. These children have needed to learn how to kill. A child should never know how to kill someone, especially their own friends and family. Children should be able to be safe, instead of living in fear of being abducted or killed.

the plan of action:

In my project, I hope to raise money and awareness to help end this war. I will work in partner with the Invisible Children Organization, via our school club. My club at school has been setting up fundraisers from taping our assistant principal to the wall for money to standing outside of gas stations asking customers for money for support. We are currently working on a "rent a puppy" fundraiser. We also get into contact with representatives from the Invisible Children Organization to plan screenings at our school to make the school more aware. We are also setting up our own screening at a local karate school as a way to raise awareness and accept donations. The money will all be sent to the Invisible Children Organization to go toward setting up radio towers for villages to warn each other about oncoming attacks. The money will also go toward money for scholarships for children in central Africa and surrounding areas so they can get the education they need to better their chances of survival in the harsh reality they have to live in.

how you can get involved:

Others can help by donating money directly to the Invisible Children Organization via their website (http://www.invisblechildren.com) On the website there is also merchandise that you can purchase and the proceeds will go to the cause. or by contacting me at Karlieiswhatweaimfor@hotmail.com to give donations to our school and we will deposit it to the Invisible Children Organization.

Poverty, Gangs, Childhood Obesity, Broken Homes, Lack of Education/After School Enrichment/Mentoring/Role Models/Knowledge/Resources. There are several underprivaledged students that turn to gangs and drugs after school because there are no or very few after school programs offered.

why it's important:

It is important to me because I've seen several students turn to gangs and drop out of school. So many young ones are underprivileged and forced into negative lifestyles. I take any and all students who want to participate as well as students who are referred by teachers, parents and/or guardians. Typically those students have trouble at home or in school, and I use a one on one tactic to find out what there interests are so I can determine rewards for improvement. A lot of the students I've worked with were caught up in gang life/selling drugs, failing school and not participating in any after school programs because there weren't any offered at their schools. I thought that was one of the main reasons why students were turning to gangs, so I started by mentoring a few boys and they all got out of the gang life and became more focused on school, sports, arts and music. I think students just need the knowledge and opportunities to express there interests and talents to reach their potentials, succeed in high school and beyond.

Obesity is another issue that I have helped students battle. Teaching them how to eat healthier and giving them a work out plan that you motivate them through can do wonders. However, motivation is key and varies from student to student. It might be a work out plan playing basketball, wii fit, skate boarding, hiking or basic lifting/cardio etc. You just have to take the time to figure out what works best for each individual.

the plan of action:

Provide mentoring and after school programs such as Leadership, Music, Sports, Art, Tutoring, Guidance etc. Inspiration Mentoring

Mission Statement: Our goal is to assist students in reaching their fullest potential by offering them one on one mentoring and tutoring as well as several leadership and extracurricular enrichment opportunities they wouldn’t experience otherwise. We focus on students individual interests and reward them when they reach certain goals. Many of our students suffer from broken homes, gangs, obesity, poverty etc. We provide them with the knowledge and resources necessary to overcome these obstacles.

Every student is different, so every approach is different. We develop a, “Success Plan” for every student which includes goals with step by step, day by day, week by week and month by month objectives, so we can measure effectiveness and improvement. No one is turned down and we have a 100% success rate since we’ve started. Students have dropped out of gangs, improved academics and found passion for activities such as music, art, photography, outdoor education, sports, debate etc.

It is our belief that all students have a passion for something and want to learn, it is just a matter of finding out what that passion is and how to motivate each individual. If you can reward a student with an opportunity they’ve never experienced or dreamed of they will do anything to succeed. I have brought students to professional recording studios, vocal lessons, acting auditions/classes, movie sets, mountains for skiing/snowboarding/tubing, youth recognition ceremonies to receive awards I nominated them for, ribbon cutting ceremonies to meet the mayor, community service events and many other places/events all for the first time to show them I care about there individual interests and to earn their respect.

I base every “Success Plan” on a rewards system that students must earn to motivate them to reach their goals. I combat the lack of role models, broken homes, obesity and gang life on a daily basis. However, it’s these situations that keep me passionate and motivated to help. Some people go to third world countries to help better peoples lives, but I have found that are several people in my own community that suffer from some of the hardships. I believe it is my calling to do whatever I can to help and I will stop at nothing to succeed.

I would like to expand across the entire district and eventually state and country. I have a big vision for Inspiration Mentoring and want it to improve the nations education, obesity rate, crime rate and drop out rate. It will start off small in every school and build every year until every school in the area has a program.

Others can help by volunteering, mentoring, facilitating, advertising/spreading the word, donating etc.

why it's important:

Living in a place like America, it's easy to take for granted our opportunities for choice and education. I am extremely passionate about the Invisible Children organization because I know I have done nothing in my life to enjoy these luxuries, while the people suffering from war and poverty in Central Africa are undeserving of their conditions as well. This fact has bound a drive in me to even these conditions, to give these people a stable and secure life and the opportunity for social mobility through education. The horrors of Africa's longest running war WILL be just a memory.

the plan of action:

I found that the simplest way to raise revenue for Invisible Children was through the book drive. It wouldn't take much time to organize in a large-scale, and it'd be the easiest method as people are more willing to give forgotten things, like books, rather than something needed and used in daily life, like money. I began the book drive at my school sometime in late fall of 2011 and wanted to involve my entire community in the cause, so I emailed every school in my district. Since then, 6 schools have joined the book drive, along with my church. So far, we've collected over 3000 books. I'd like to be optimistic and say the actual count is well over that figure, as my mom generously counted them for me (while I was at school) and stopped less than halfway through.

how you can get involved:

The book drive ends January 27th. You can help by dropping off your gently used books to the front office of Great Oak High School on Deer Hollow Way.

why it's important:

I want to do it as I want to do something, anything to get the technology I want.

the plan of action:

I would like to create some inventions I design. I would like to do college, I want to be there to know graphic design and make money to invest with. There are small projects I can do with small amounts of money and there are large projects with a lot of money. Example: A Nano Technologically advanced Volumetric Molecular Scanner that can scan something and make a digitally programmed 3d working copy of it can work with a nano machine with a compupter where you can do anything you want to it instantly. That includes people, objects, items, anything you can think of, completely stop the need for farms and animals farming as all the acids and minerals can be practically instantly printed off a computer with this. I like to think it would cost around $990 Billion USD to design the Scanner. With the Scanner, it can be designed quickly and distributed everywhere. I am the only person in the universe that I know of actually doing something about it.

What I would like to do to make the money is make a Electric Generator that creates its own electricity to power things like helicopters and jets. I already design it and I can talk to engineers that can make it although it would be a hard concept as anyone I explain it to that thinks they know how to do it greater would just do it themselves, take small amounts of investment and the money that would be needed for the scanner would be distributed to lots of people at large companies an they wouldn't do anything to design the scanner. I would like to think that I would need more power from the electric generator as a idea to make people want to buy it. I design a lot of inventions and I can make designs and everything I would need to show engineers how to design them. The electric generator I design is about less than $100.00 in resources, and is less than a few LB's. It is in the shape of a acorn. I call it the Acorn. It is not all about the generator's. I design a lot of inventions and a lot of ideas, companies, etc... that are all amaing and I would like to think that people are interested in what I am interested in though I would like to be around people like that in college environment's.

If more people knew what goes on every day, more progress towards a better world would be made. Billions of people suffer on a daily basis and die from preventable causes but it doesn't have to be that way. If the people of the world learn more about the problems and the causes in place that solve and prevent these, change would be unstoppable.

the plan of action:

Educate as many people as possible, both locally and internationally, about the worldly needs and how they can be solved and even prevented all together. Make it relevant and doable for folks to get involved personally to see that their voice does matter. We organized this fall festival in October to do that by inviting out various nonprofits in the community to set up informational booths about how people can get involved. Many also publicly spoke and we allowed struggling artists to perform their music, as well. It was also family-friendly and we had activities for the kids. We even did a signature balloon launch where we each took a pledge of how we were going to change the world and wrote it on the balloon and then let them go simultaneously.

how you can get involved:

Organize your own "do good" day in the community featuring causes that are already making an impact! Of course, you can join the Project Change The World movement too and we'll help you out! In addition, just do the research and educate yourselves so that you may spread the truth to others, as well.

the problem:

The Needy Today (TNT) is presenting this project proposal on education titled “Non-Formal Education for Vulnerable Children”. TNT seeks to address the problem that vulnerable children do not have access to quality education. This proposal focuses on marginalized orphan children that have been dropped out of school or never attended school.
TNT will launch its non-formal education program, through community based schools in underserved areas, focusing on access and quality for girls and boys. TNT will address the issues affecting access and quality of education in vulnerable areas by supporting community-based non-formal schools. This would not be a parallel structure to formal education but a bridge to fill the gap and limitations of formal education. The vital truth of this program is active participation of targeted communities. That is dynamic and regular involvement in daily school matters and supervisory role through Parent Teachers Association/ Community Based organization.

TNT believes that access to education cannot make a marked impact on communities and society at large; unless quality imparted through schools is an agreed value for all partners. The capacity building component will mainly focus on teacher training, to provide quality services; demonstrate innovative methodologies and approaches, improving children’s learning and ensuring primary school retention in target areas. The capacity building component would include school administrators, PTAs and field staff to strengthen outreach program.

why it's important:

The problem analysis below presents the causes of the central problem. There are numerous issues and causes of education problems for vulnerable children, which fall mainly in two categories: access and quality. These two issues are interlinked because access is a prerequisite for quality. Likewise, quality of education enhances parents’ trust in education and can motivate them to send their children to school. Access is the first of two main issues with regard to primary education. Inaccessibility of primary education is a result of distance, child labor, poor background, male preference, scarcity of teachers, local leaders’ fear of loosing power and frequent policy changes. The problem of access applies to both girls and boys; however it is more serious for girls.
Project Activities:

• Stakeholders meetings & surveys to ensure coordination and collect data
• Village meetings to organize parent & motivate community
• Establish schools to educate orphan boys and girls
• Technical support to train local teachers;
• Advocacy events for Girls education

the plan of action:

The proposed project would adopt a two-pronged approach expanding the number of non formal schools along with enhancing the quality of the teaching offered in the schools. Quality of education is viewed as the learning outcome of students which is primary concern of all stakeholders. Quality learning cannot be expected without quality inputs. Quality inputs would include adequate place/space, trained teachers, teaching kit, refresher courses for teachers, supplementary reading material for teachers and students, community support and Local Government involvement.
The project is designed to provide primary education, through community based schools, to all children in targeted areas who have never enrolled, or have dropped out of primary school. The program will follow a planned yet flexible approach in responding to students needs.

how you can get involved:

The Needy Today (TNT) has seen through experience that when people contribute resources to school, they are more likely to ensure that the children are enrolled in schools and attend regularly. People can help by donating money, school materials, volunteer to teach etc.
