Jailed U.S. journalists freed
Former President Bill Clinton was in North Korea this week, working towards the release of two American journalists, Laura Ling and Euna Lee, who have been held in North Korea for four months on charges of illegally entering North Korean territory. Clinton, along with Ling and Lee, arrived safely in Burbank, CA this morning to be reunited with their families.

Unemployment help running out
Right now, nine million Americans depend on unemployment insurance to get by, but the coming months may bring tougher times as these benefits run out. Up to 1.5 jobless people are about to reach the limit for unemployment insurance, putting their homes and ability to support their families at risk.
Manyare looking to Congress to pass an extension to coverage, adding another 13 weeks to unemployment insurance in states with the highest unemployment rates.

Sgt. James Crowley and Henry Louis Gates Jr. were invited to the White House following an incident on July 16th when Gates was arrested and accused of disorderly conduct after Sgt. Crowley responded to a report of a possible burglary at Gates' Massachusetts home.

Four Senators pushed for a bill Wednesday to ban texting when driving, after a newly released study reiterated that drivers who text while driving.
Senators Schumer, New York, Menendez, New Jersey, Landrieu, Lousiiana, and Hagan, North Carolina, put forth the ALERT Act, with hopes to ban truck and car drivers from texting while driving.
The ALERT bill would forbid any driver from sending texts or emails while driving a vehicle and would require the Department of Transportation to set minimum standards for compliance.

Many would like to believe that the Congress or representative government can solve all of the people's problems. However, that is only if that's in the interests of the representative in question. On election day, the people vote to give their power away to their representative, stripping the power away from the people. It is imperative in a true democracy that the people have the power to make laws. Even though this is not a perfect system and the people may make mistakes on the first try, giving power to the people is like giving more and more responsibilities to a child.
