Protests continue in Iran
Using the tenth anniversary of a student uprising that, at the time, posed the biggest threat to the Islamic regime, thousands of people crowded the streets of Tehran on Thursday to resume demonstrations against the outcome of the June 12 presidential election.
A journalist on the scene reported that the pro-government militia struck people on the arms and back while some protestors set trash cans on fire to counter the effects of the tear gas. Security forces has warned that police would “strongly confront” anyone who came out to demonstrate.

What happened and why?
In the predawn hours of June 28, hundreds of armed and hooded soldiers broke into the presidential palace and seized Zelaya from the bed. They forced the president aboard a plane and sent him to Costa Rica. Zelaya called the action a kidnapping, and says he is still president.

Climbing smokestacks for change
The G8 Summit is underway today and this morning members of Greenpeace were high in the sky to get their point across to world leaders. 100 activists from 18 different countries climbed the chimneys of four coal power stations in Italy to send a message to the world leaders at the G8.
They hung banners calling for more green jobs in the fight for climate change and ask these countries convened at the conference to be global leaders.
