War, Peace And Politics

National Small Busines Alliance

Small businesses are the lifeblood of every community and economy, which they support and sustain through employment, variety, choice, and charity. Yet it becomes increasingly more difficult as a small business to overcome the vast breadth and depth of hurdles they face. I am trying to create an environment where small businesses have a fighting chance to survive, prosper and grow. This includes giving them unified representation through local policy.

Picture Peace

I am trying to create awareness of international issues through art, specifically photography.

Poverty in South America

For this project, I compare the cities of Caracas, Venezuela and Lima, Peru. I am trying to solve the large problem of poverty by analyzing the ways in which poverty manifests itself in each city. Although the histories of the cities are similar, the current governments are very different. I aim to learn more about the costs and benefits of a government like that of Alan Garcia versus that of Hugo Chavez. Politics are changing in the twenty-first century and I am trying to find out what the impact is on urban (and rural) poverty in Latin America.

Tactics of Hope

Whether it was during my summer in Africa working to raise educational awareness among women about HIV/AIDS at health clinics, churches, and schools, or while visiting the orphanages in Phnom Peng, Cambodia, or helping to build a community plaza in Greece in honor of a young girl whose death had recently brought the town closer together...in all of these experiences, the greatest problem repeatedly I experienced among volunteers, NGO staffers, think tank policy advocates, social entrepreneurs, and other change makers is an information barrier.

Save Darfur

The lack of awareness about the genocide in Darfur.

pamoja Street Festival

In Kenya, young people are at the core of the problem of violence and crime due to lack of a youth platform to air their grievances and unemployment rates that is being experienced in this country. They form the majority of the population of about 65% of the total population. They also form the majority victims of the murder registered each year, and are often the agents of such act. The relationship between the young people and the police force are conflicting with the least trust in the police and are most frequent victims of the violent police action.

Golf Tournament 2008

We are trying to mitigate the genocide of Darfur and the effects it is having upon the Darfurian people. Due to rebel uprisings in the province of Darfur, the Sudanese government has hired a militia, called the "Janjaweed," to go into Darfurian villages and "root out" the rebel groups. However, this government funded militia has turned the situation into a genocide through mass murdering, raping, and pillage innocent Darfurian people. Because of this, 400,000 Darfurians have died, and upwards of 3,000,000 have been displaced from their homes.
