Hello to everyone!
I want to shear my opinion about this topic… I do agree in the part that it’s sad to see this poor animal to die in international TV. But one fact is that if there were no camera man filming this event, the lemur will still keep this sad end. I do understand this is a documentary, its nature on there on, Man should no interfere and that’s the definition of intelligence in nature: “the capacity to survive in the environment or ecosystem”.
I haven’t see the episode but I know the program and I do watch Animal Planet, but maybe they shouldn’t film this event too long, or keep presenting it…
Maybe in the USA it’s normal and common to see people helping and rescuing animals everyday, but were I live (Puerto Rico) is not so common and seeing that the humane society in the USA have “animal cops” and people that will keep fighting to the end for animal welfare its inspiring to people like me… I love animals more than human… but I know sometimes nature its nature no matter what, but other times the human hurts nature and the animals with the meat industry, fur and leather, dog fights and cockfight. I am a vegetarian trying to fight and spread the word about animal rights in a country were cockfighting is consider a cultural event… so went I see programs in Animal Planet about “animal cops” or documentary about wild life and other programs educating people about animals is inspiring and a happy thing (in one way) coz’ some school in Puerto Rico are showing this channel to students to create a conscious about animals and nature.
I don’t like to see animals suffer and as I mention already I do agree that is sad to see an amazing animal die in TV and they (Animal Planet) shouldn’t film this event and maybe focus the documentary in other amazing facts of these animals. But instead to keep argument on this event we (animal lovers) should focus in how we can help animals around the world… like countries in the middle east that capture wild animals (like bears, tigers in danger & others) and putting them fighting to dead and/or “sports” like the Kok-boru Presidential Cup in the capital Bishkek in Kyrgyzstan (see Yahoo news most viewed photos) were this sport is horseman’s chased by opponents as they drags a headless goat across the pitch. This is cruel and men have everything to do with this horrific cruelness and inhuman event.
There are worst thing happening to animals around the world cause by men than film nature taking her pat.

I just commented regarding that about Animal Planet and their Lemur Kingdom soap opera. Well it's not a soap opera, Gizmo isn't going to make another surprise appearance in a later season, he's dead. And I don't want Animal Planet anymore, not just because of that, but I hate all of their shows. The little informative Top 10 blah blah blah shows are okay, but their actual Show shows, I don't want. If anyone is interested, quite a wonderful thread to read I posted on tvguide's page about the show and Animal Planet.
http://community.tvguide.com/thread/Lemur-Kingdom/Gizmos-Death/800033371
I'm not trying to plug tvguide in here, I'm just giving a reference to where the discussion is actually taking place.
No food, no water
Great comment, i totally agree with you that it's not right to let the poor lemur pass away. They want the show to be popular and they don't mind having 2-3 animals die to get people watching. Is it the recipe to success?
These people will have to stop one day and think about what they are doing..

Go Vegan
One of the best ways to help animals is to be vegan, which includes not eating meat, eggs, or dairy. Adopting a vegan diet saves the lives of an estimated 100 ANIMALS PER YEAR.
Each year in the United States alone, 10 BILLION ANIMALS are tortured and killed for food. This means that 99% OF ANIMALS killed in the United States are slaughtered for food.
The billions of animals that are born, raised, and killed in the factory farming industry endure lives of abuse and unfair deaths.
Chickens face debeaking (having their beaks cut off with a hot blade), crowded and disease-filled conditions, and rough handling that leads to broken wings and legs. Males born onto egg factory farms are killed at just days old.
Cows on dairy farms face lives of repeated impregnation and milking. When they are too exhausted from this cycle to be profitable, they are slaughtered for hamburger. When her calves are males, they will likely be sold for veal. The dairy industry makes the vealindustry possible.
Cows and pigs that are raised for meat live in crowded enclosures among their own waste. When they are of slaughter weight, they often face long trips to slaughterhouses in crowded trucks. In the winter, many animals freeze to the trucks; in the summer many die of dehydration or heat stroke. At slaughterhouses, they are shot in the head with a steel rod. If this fails to kill or stun them, they will be skinned and dismembered while still alive and conscious.
Eating meat, eggs, and dairy supports factory farms and makes these cruelties possible. Please, take a stand against cruelty towards animals by going vegan. You WILL save lives.
To learn more about the reasons to be vegan, you can visit the Action for Animals website. AFA provides many resources, and you can request one of their FREE vegan starter packs at www.veganstarterpack.com
click to feed an animal
Ok so there is this website that you can go to called www.theanimalrescuesite.com and their home page has a purple button that says "click to give". When you click on it you give 0.6 bowls of food to an animal in need. It's totally free and easy and all you have to do is click a button! If you care about helping animals as much as I do, you will take 1 minute to go to this website and do this.
Thow a Party!
The next time you have a birthday party, (or any kind of gift-giving event) ask your guests to bring dog/cat food/supplies, and then, donate all the supplies you recieved to a local shelter. (:
Poor Gizmo
I'm very glad to get a response to my posting about Gizmo.
It's true this is the nature of life and all things, people and animals die, but to stand by, better yet, to claim yourself as a bystander, and just watch these things is what hurts me.
Animal Planet, should be showing great things, uplifting and inspirational, or better yet informing everyone how we can make this planet a better place for everyone and all creatures in it. Not sitting by and filming animal deaths, and retarded shows, showing animal cops going and rescuing abused animals. Ya, we get it okay, people mistreat there pets. But look we are not all Michael Vick. They should be focusing on informing people of programs and institutions that are seriously making huge differences around the world, and how people can contribute. Or just go back to the Nova'ish programming that just teaches people about animals and studies done about them.
Gizmo
Dieing of Starvation is one of the most Horrific death you will ever see. Nature in the wild is a tough beast but animal planet starting to profit on starvation is starting to lose me.
I have rescued to many Dehydrated/Starving animals in my life to intentionally watch more.
Irony
I find it ironic that I saw a commercial for this website on Animal Planet, talking about animal welfare right after watching 2 episodes of Lemur Kingdom where they filmed a lemur's death. You know it's one thing to say "ohh look" it's a dead lemur, but this was part of the plot, part of the storyline, they played off this creatures death to add suspense to a tv show. Maybe I'm the only one that see's something wrong with this. So let me place the setting for you, there is a lemur named Gizmo as if these creatures are personified enough, they film these animals trials and tribulations. Well this Lemur has an injured leg, and falls behind from the group, unable to feed himself and exhausted from dehydration ( I'm sure your going my god this is appalling right? Oh of course not, this is adding to the ratings says the producer). Well as he is dieing, I'm sure there is a cameraman just sitting there filming this creature die, and it's really quite twisted too because I'm sure that's what he's doing. I doubt he walked up to it and fed it a piece of fruit, or tried to give it some water. So after filming ohh I don't know 15 to 20 seconds of watching him just die, they cut scene to something else alittle more positive and then show another shot of Gizmo laying on the ground dead.
I figure someone is gonna argue, we shouldn't interfere with nature, that's natural selection, etc. etc. well don't give me none of it because we club enough baby seals, and cultivate animals for their furs, and meats and exploit nature to it's fullest. But come on cut me some slack you think if your doctor told you he didn't want to give your mother medicine for her cancer because it would be interfering with nature you would be singing a different tune.
It wouldn't of taken that camera man 20 minutes to go and help that little lemur, and i'm quite ashamed that he didn't and I loathe the producers of that tv show, and if you don't know what i'm talking about switch over to animal planet i'm sure they will be re-airing gizmo's death to a tv near you soon enough.
And ya know, it's not that I'm advocating we find this fella, and break his leg, drop him on an island where he won't find any food, and just as he's exhausted himself searching for water, and finally dieing from starvation we start videotaping him/her and make a tv show out of it, I'm not.
I'm just angry with people's bystander complex, when you see an old lady get mugged do you do something? No you stand there and watch, people need to start being more pro-active. If we don't start caring more about each other and everything, this is going to be a sad place for our children to grow up in.
I don't have a bleeding heart, this tv show just struck a cord, you should watch it and tell me what you think too.

raise money to donate
an easy way to raise some money to donate to your local animal shelter, or better yet...pay for the expense of adopting a homeless dog or cat of your own, is to collect aluminum cans. Have you ever watched people who drink from aluminum cans? When they are done, they almost always throw them in the regular garbage instead of recycling them the proper way. You can collect them and turn them in for money...price today is 40 cents a pound. Then you can take that money and use it to provide a home for a homeless animal or donate it to your local shelter.
I luv animals
I absolutly love the idea of having a birthday party and asking the guests to bring a pet treat or toy to donate to the animal shelter! It's sad how many animals don't haave homes. I have one cat, but I love cats and I'm begging my parents for another one.
reply-animal do nothin wrong
EXACTLY!!! animals are the "lesser species", and we are hre to protect them.
Animal rights are different from animal welfare
Animal rights is where you belive that humans should not use animals for human purposes at all. Animal welfare is where you believe animals should be treated humanly, but still used for human use.
I totally believe in animal welfare. Animals are given in to humans hand by God. If animals are treated humanly, they should be used for human use.
animals do nothing wrong
Pets get harmed for doin' nothin'
People watch it and should do somethin'
Save the puppies, save the cats
matbe even save the rats
Peace,

I hate when animals are hurt.
They do nothing and still are harmed. Sheep think it a normal day in the field until they are loaded in a truck and slottered. They are later used for food in with human eat. I am never eating meat. It is wrong to eat some thing of you're own history. We are mammals and so are they.I have 12 fish(not including my beta),a snapping turtle,a chubby frog from africa,an american toad, and a culf coast toad. I have never mistreated them and as long as they live I will not. Oh and be careful what shampoos and conditioners you use. Distributers test it on animals and it can cause mutation, skin deseases, and they can die. I know Suave and other big companies do this. Aussie is a companie who does not experiment with animals but with real well kinda real human scalp.
i love animals so i stopped eating them.
After watching videos on PETA.org of what happens to animals that people eat, i dropped the meat at that second. I'm now working on talking my mom into helping me rescue animals. Like save animals from being taking to pounds that will kill them. I also am going to go around town today and set up donation jars. If you really want to help ALL animals, become vegetarian its not hard i swear, just think of the poor animals suffering from cruelty and it's easy. Also STOP BREEDING ANIMAlS! This is one reason why we have so many homeless. Spay/nueter your dog, cat or whatever. Breeders just keep making more problems for the animals. Stop trying to get money, think about the poor animals that suffer because of people being so self centered.
Many ways to help
There are many ways to help shelters & rescues even if you are to young to volunteer at the shelter or for other reasons can't make it to the shelter.
#1 the dog wash is a good idea, check with local business owners to see if you can hold the dog wash in their parking lot we have 2 located on our main street that many hold car/pet washes at.
#2 save your change and donate it, any amount helps $5-$10-$15 every penny helps.
#3 On your birthday have a party ask everyone to bring a pet toy/treat/food/ or other gift for a shelter animal that you can send to the shelter.
#4 Take your birthday guests to the shelter with their gifts
have your party there who knows a pet might just get a new home from this.
#5 See if a local store will let you put up a money jar for donations and or set up a donation area where shoppers can leave donated items like treats food or other items, then you can take them to the shelter monthy or as needed. You can also see if you can take pictures of shelter animals and post them in the donation area so others can see the homeless animals you are trying to help.
#6 (this goes back to # 2) put a penny a day in a jar
7 cents a week
(EVERY PENNY COUNTS)
These are just a few things anyone can do to help no matter what their age.
Hope this helps!
This is sad...
This isn't right. I mean these animals get abandoned. Like 98% of all those homeless animals get left outside. Some animals are lucky enough to get a new home or be delivered to the animal shelter. But if there are still 7 MILLION homeless animals out there then not many of those abandoned animals get homes after all. And it's just sad.
animals animals animals
More then giving your own money to someone who might, misuse it, you can donate to places like the SPCA or nonprofits that help families by taking the animals from the homes paying for the treatment and then returning them. That way, you are not feeling stupid when someone takes your for all your worth. Then you never have to get involved with people you might not need to know.
sorry that is happening
I used to live in Alaska, I know people can sometimes be idiotic when it comes to their pet, because let's face it, we were all raised by hard core old timers, so some people just don't seem to understand that their "love" isn't good enough......... Okay, now the questions I have are
1. are the animals skinny or underfed??
2. Do they all have shelter??
3. are they cats and dogs living outside
My advice is, WITHOUT causing confrontation, I would maybe take a snap shot of the animals, when the animal control isn't doing anything or believing your story, just keep your own little evidence folder, of the neglect, and then show them proof of what's going on. ALSO.... when doing this KNOW that if the pound there IS a kill shelter they may not want to take their animals from a place you think is bad, because they may think they have a better chance where they are. It's horrible to live in a free country sometimes. I wih I could change some laws myself. You think it's bad there, just know here in NC where we are stationed for the Marine Corps, you can beat and cuss at your kids, smoke inside restaraunts, and leave your dogs our with no shelter in SCORCHING weather, without giving them flea protection or getting the veterinary care, unless they are practically dead and not ever hear a peep from any sort of inforcement. I hope this helps.
I mean if you REALLY want to get daring you might ask if they want to sell you any of them, or FIND A RESCUE organization that might convince them to get them to give some of the pets over, to be spayed and neutered and find them homes. Good luck
Good Luck!
Wow, this sounds amazing!! I hope you accomplish all your goals because it sounds like you can do a lot of good for the world. I just want to wish you the best of luck with everything!!
Getting older
i can't wait till im older! not for the normal reasons though.
when im older im gunna get one amazingly good paying job, im gunna by a 5,000 acre farm with ten barns (all comfortable and dry for abondoned horses), ten humungous kennels (all for adopted and homeless dogs), a big yard for all the adopted cats. then im gunna have huge feilds for the horses, adopted goats and other animals.
yeah im gunna do it.
adopting
We already have a dog and I doubt we are getting any more pets so I'm probably not adopting either. But I do like to dog wash idea...
How Can I help
I can't adopt
I can't volunteer at the shelter
I am trying to do a fundrasier (the dog wash idea) i just have any where to do it i live on a private street not a county street so i cant hold it at my house no one would be able to find it.I live in the Folosm/Fair Oaks/Orangvale/Sacramento area so if any one knows a place please tell me!
Thank You
Livestock Shows
I have to do a project for my school and I have to talk about all of the bad things that happen to animals at livestock shows. The problem is I really don't know where to start, can anyone give me some ideas of what bad things happen to the animals at these events.
Re:Re: How Much?
Where I live you can work at the animal shelter when you're 16.
alone at home
i live in alaska nere biglake and the people behind me come out once a week to feed there dog,s cat,s ,ect. once a week ive called on them they were told to get rid of them to a good home. all they did was take them up the road for a week till they came out to look they were gone and left they went got thier dog,s and all back and it,s the same old thing.i call in about them tell them what,s going on and they pass the buck. can any one tell me how to save these pet,s so someone can love them and give them a good home.i,m not good at the law,s up here but this is wrong wrong wrong. ive had my dog 10 year,s now and she never goes without love, food and shelter. if anyone can help me out i would love it.these,s are liveing thing,s and need love and food and a clean home.help me bob in alaska
How much??
If you are in it for the money, don't bother, get out now!! Your heart is not in the right place and the animals need people who care about them, not the money....
i need alot of help!!
I can't be of much help to you, except to support you and ask you to pray to God for the guidance. These animals need you and do all that you can do to help them. If you can take a class to learn some first aid for animals so that maybe you can help in small ways to improve their lives, that may be a start. Love goes a long way even if its just scraps you feed a dog or cat, a good belly rub will make its heart beat faster and better. A bowl of milk, anything extra that you may have. Try and find a vet that may be willing to fix these animals as a public service. Most vets are in the business because they love animals, so, you may find someone like that.
Good luck and God Bless.
Animals Animals Animals
One way to help is maybe posting in your local vet. clinic that you are willing to help a family who may have some finacial difficulties but love their pets and can't afford to pay for either fixing them or getting their shots, that you'd help them. I became overwhelmed when my cats kept breeding in the house because as a single mom, I just couldn't afford to have them fixed. Fixing one, eliminates a lot of unwanted pets. I kept all of mine, and eventually had them all fixed. I felt they were and are my responsibility and I didn't want to trust anyone with my babies. Just a suggestion.
Stray cat
If the people truely wanted this cat they would not let it get into the shape you have described. The cat followed you home because it felt it needed someone to care. As humans with the ability to notice right and wrong and to do something about it, this cat is now yours until you either find it another home or keep it. No, animal deserves to be mistreated. We do not always choose the animal, they usually choose us. Good luck and God Bless.
re-stray cat
i think you should take it, but let urneighbors know...they might not care what happens to the cat as long as its not their responsibility........if u really dont want it, take it to a no-put down shelter (:
I love pets!
Pets are my most favorite thing in the world!I really hope I can help those 7 million pets!

I love animals so much. I would really like to know when there are some charity events in the CT area. I really want to volunteer my time to animals. Any animal I have gotten has been a rescue but I feel like I can do so much more to help. So if anyone has any ideas for different ways to volunteer, or knows of any charity events going on please let me know! Thanks!
thanks to Butler County Ohio
We should all commend Kay Rogers of Butler County. She is the Auditor who is seeking action against people who mistreat animals.
This comes after an animal was found with it's chain growing into its neck, After the dog was treated the family got the animal back!
Her office has decided to take action. I sent her office an E-mail showing my support.
i need alot of help!!!!!
ok,actually,it's not me in need of help, it's the animals living in my country. see,i'm from Romania, and people here don't put too much work into animal welfare.they don't think about it at all actually.and there are so many stray dogs and cats over here, it breaks my heart that i can't do anything about it. the only so-called Animal Shelter we have over here is a dog pound where they take dogs and kill them the second day. if a car hits a dog,it just lyes there until it dies, nobody takes them to a doctor, because they have to pay for the treatment.....
i would like to open an animal shelter in my city, hopefully in all my country's cities eventually, but i gotta start small if i want to make it bigger.i want it to be at least a center where we can take dogs/cats to be neutered in the most human way possible,so that they don't multiply on the streets, and be given some shots against diseases. ofcourse ,i would want people to adopt them,so that they won't be on the streets anymore. i'm really serious about this and i'm writing to you so that maybe you could help me,point me in the right direction. who do i have to talk to to get some support, financial and legal maybe? i'm really sick and tired of watching mistreated animals wind up on the street, getting beaten or starving to death just because people think of them as toys or nothings.
please help!
thank you
Hartz
i am really sorry about your cats and me and my friends are planning a trip to walmart to talk to the manager
Guinea pigs
This past year I rescued a guinea pig and absolutely love my little "pig"!! I have learned that in South America they raise guinea pigs on farms to kill and then eat. I find this to be a horrible thing. It seems that at times the smaller pets are overlooked and I would like to do something to help(particularly guinea pigs).
This is what I did
I started to design Activist T-Shirts, stickers and stuff with quotes and messages to make people aware of animal rights, vegetarianism and so on. My store is www.artlifecafe.com
Hartz Flea Products--I need your Help!!!
Stop the Slaughter
Returning home from a routine trip to the library on Friday, July 13, 2007. I found one of my beloved cats lying on the floor in a pool of blood, her tiny body wracked with convulsions. Checking on the others, I found two more unable to stand, their legs too shaky to hold their bodies, their bodies trembling fiercely.
Wrapping these three in towels, we headed for the Pet Emergency Hospital, where one of the first questions was whether I had recently given the cats a flea treatment—I had, that very afternoon. The next question: “Was it Hartz?” Again, my answer was yes. This was my first year using this particular brand.
When I left the hospital that night, it was without my three cats. They were too far gone to make it through. I left with instructions to bathe the remaining four and watch them closely. I followed this. They were quiet and nervous that night. By the next morning, another cat was in full-blown seizures and the other three were blinking rapidly and jerking, their muscles starting to be affected. Another trip to the Pet Hospital. When I left this time, one more of my babies was gone and the other three had been admitted. I was scared they would not make it. These three did come home. They survived physically, but my heart goes out to them as they wander through the house crying for those who are gone.
The look on the vet’s face got me thinking and I started to research. This was not the first tragedy caused by Hartz flea treatment. Cats have been dying from this product for years---yet the product remains on store shelves. Unsuspecting consumers, wanting to protect their pets and trusting the Hartz name buy and use it—sometimes it is fine, all too often it ends in tragedy.
I am asking you today to take a stand with me and demand that Hartz remove their flea treatment for cats from the shelves. Hartz knows the danger, they are aware of the record, yet they continue—this slaughter must stop!!
The warning on the box states simply the product should not be used on cats under five pound, pregnant or ill. None of my seven fell into any of those categories—all were over five pounds, five over ten pounds. None were pregnant. All were healthy. The youngest was just over two years old and the oldest six—not kittens. Yet EVERY SINGLE ONE had a reaction!!!
How can you take a stand? The first step is to make a copy of this letter and post it anywhere and everywhere you can. Let people know the danger of this product. Next, contact Hartz at:
Consumer Relations Department
The Hartz Mountain Corporation
400 Plaza Drive
Secaucus , NJ 07094 USA
Consumer Hotline
1-800-275-1414
Monday – Friday | 9 am – 5 pm EST
And insist they remove their product from the shelves. If you see the cat flea treatment on a store shelf, talk to the store manager, let him or her know the danger and ask that it be removed.
Hartz, how many more lives must be lost before you stop this needless slaughter? Is it going to take you seeing the pain and horror in your child’s eyes when they watch a beloved friend die? Is it going to take looking into a pair of golden eyes that are begging for help as you hold the convulsing body that just hours before ran and played? If there is any compassion at all within you, you will see the need to remove this product immediately.
I panic every time one of my remaining three moves quickly. Hundreds of others out there do the same. It is too late to save so many—it isn’t too late to save the rest!!! I ask each and every employee at Hartz to stop by the pet shop on your way home tonight—or maybe you have a cat at home –really look into that cat’s eyes and ask yourself this: Doesn’t that cat’s life mean anything? Is the money worth the pain and suffering?
If that doesn’t change your mind, look into your child’s eyes. What would you do if you gave this precious child medicine to help him or her and instead of helping, the medicine attacked every muscle, caused convulsions – and death?
My cats were my children—just as so many others are to those who love them. Find your conscious, search your hearts---and stop this senseless slaughter!!!

Helping animals
I love animals and i wish that there was a shelter nearby but i live in a really small town. How can i volunteer?
stray cat
I think that you should ask the owner some questions about how they treated the cat and if they would like to have it back because by the way you described it it sounded that the cat ran away from home because it was being mistreated.
Re: How Much?
First of all, you should do this to benefit the animals, not for the pay.
Second, you cannot work at an animal shelter unless you are 18+.
Third, we make about 19.50/hours.
Depends on your skills and how qualified you are.
Fourth, you have to have volunteered at a local shelter for at least 6 months.
Just never forget, its not for the pay.
Its for the animals.
I would still continue doing this for free if I hadnt been offered the job for my skills.
Its a wonderfull thing to do, and once you get that ONE SPECIAL animal, youll never regret making it your carrer.
I know I never will, and I did it without pay for almost 3 years. Its one of the best experince you can ever have, like when you get a very scared animals to love you, or you get an aggressive animal out of their cage for the FIRST time and there the nicest animals youve ever meet. Ive had about 3 different dogs, one that I had to sociallize, the other I had to socialize and get to stop being aggressive, and the other I had to get to stop being aggressive, and I felt so....I cant describe what it was like. Just never forget, your there to benefit the animal and keep them safe and happy, not to make money. If you always keep that in mind, youll never regret your choice. And youll always love your carrer. I know I will.
My Tips 4 Helping Animals
I love animals. And for those who probably can't get to a shleter near you to help out, try to raise money and send it to the shelter. Think of your own ideas or read this book: Fast Cash For Kids. It has great tips. Don't hesitate! Animals are in need! You can also go to shelter if you can and clean cages, or play with animals. They're lonely in their cage, and need someone to play with them! If you have the permission of your parents and agree o it, why not adopt a little pet! That's one life of a pet saved. And if you see a pet running alond the street by itself, go and h
Thank you!
Thank you so much for your input I will tell my friends what you suggested.
Start by finding out what
Start by finding out what the shelter may need..i.e. pet food, supplies, etc...or maybe they need donations of towels, pet shampoo, and cleaning supplies for cage cleanup. Start a donation drive of pet food and supplies and donate them to the shelter. Maybe you can encourage older kids to donate time by walking the dogs, and helping out at the shelter.
RE:Stray Cat
I think that u should give the cat the proper nutrition and love it deserves so that it's not so skinny and when its healthy return it to the owner or return it to the owner and ask if u can ever help take care of the cat while they're at work or on vacaction and so then u can make sure it's getting the correct treatment it deserves.
