Fox News is accusing Madonna of hypocrisy in her support of environmental concerns. The diva is headlining tomorrow's London show, but according to this article, her heart isn't in it. In fact, they report that her investments support some of the most environmentally damaging companies out there!
Madonna, who seems to be on top of all her many business endeavors, has actually invested about $2.7 million dollars in companies that are creating the destruction that Live Earth is trying to raise awareness about. She has invested in several companies named as the biggest corporate polluters in the world.
The article goes on to list specifics of her investments and the ways in which her finances are contributing to global destruction. It is a bit disturbing, I will admit. There are obvious alternatives to some of her bad choices -- she could invest in a car company that produces a wide range of hybrid vehicles, for example, rather than Ford Motors, which makes only one.

Still, I've got to say that I'm of the school of thought that taking a little action is better than taking none at all. While it would be great to see Her Madgesty making thoroughly eco-friendly choices in her life, maybe this is her way to get started making change. Her song, "Hey You", benefits the Alliance for Climate Control, and her performance at the London Live Earth concert is definitely drawing crowds who will learn more about the cause.
If we all felt like we had to be perfect in order to care about an issue, it's likely that we'd never get started in the first place. Let's give credit where credit is due . . . and hope that attention toward positive efforts will inspire the masses.

Unfair
I think calling Madonna a hypocrit for having some of her money in 'non-green' stocks/equities is a bit much. She does an incredible amount for causes outside of herself and I don't think having some money in a mutual fund that may invest in oil or an American car producer (for example) undoes her efforts to change the world.
Honestly it would be hard to find a sigle celeb (Al Gore included) out there that doesn't have money in a stock that isn't green.
