Fallout Boy bassist (and activist!) Pete Wentz told People mag that the engagement ring he recently gave Ashlee Simpson is conflict-free. A diamond is considered conflict-free if its profit is not used to fund war, and it is mined and produced under ethical conditions.
At the NME (New Musical Express) Awards on Wednesday night, Pete said that it is really important to him that no one suffered for the diamond, "It's something I care about. I can't actually go [to Africa to pick it out] myself, but I trust [the jeweler]. He's a reputable person."

Pete also rocked a T-shirt with a message to the NME Awards-- slapped across his chest were the words: "Coltan is a Conflict Diamond," referring to the metallic ore largely found in the Democratic Republic of Congo in Africa.
