Joining Grohl and Co. in the campaign to get out this generation's vote: Against Me!
The Florida punk-rockers approached Rock the Vote to create a PSA that draws attention to issues like same sex marriage, abortion and war. The result features a polling booth at the center of the action that bursts into flames; meanwhile, the song's chorus drives the message: "Stop! Take some time to think, figure out what's important to you. You've got to make a serious decision."
"If that's not the theme song for Rock the Vote, I don't know what is," Jeff Ayeroff, president of Shangri-La Music and Rock the Vote's founder told USA Today. "It speaks totally about the urgency of this election, the passion of the youth movement, the times we live in. There are a bunch of kids freaked out about their future. They're invigorated and politically motivated."
The PSA is the first in Rock the Vote's 2008 campaign. The organization, which hopes to register more than 2 million young people before November's presidential election, is celebrating a milestone birthday this year, its 18th.
"Kids who were born the year we started are voting for the first time," Ayeroff said.
