While most bands would request a private jet, or at the very least, a round-trip ticket in first class, Radiohead just said no when they were asked to travel to NYC from the UK to perform on Conan O'Brien. Instead, their homeland jam was seen by Conan fans via satellite. The reason, according to frontman Thom Yorke: Flying to the U.S. to perform on the late-night show would have produced the "equivalent pollution to driving a car for a whole year." source
The band's greener performance fit in perfectly with NBC's "Green Week" campaign of showing seven days straight of environmentally conscious programming.
