What's New for Clubs?

Hey !

Hope everyone's having a great summer and keeping busy taking action in your community! Did you get  ice cream during Baskin Robbins' free cone week? Hope so. You deserve it.

We have lots of exciting campaigns coming up this fall including the tail end of Do Something 101, Save Our Music - a music advocacy program, and Feed the Need - a national food drive.

A special clubs heads-up. We're going to be running a Super Bowl Volunteer Blitz where you and a team of up to 11 (or 11 of your club's members) will compete against teens nationwide to complete the most volunteer hours. The winning team will be flown to Miami in February and given tickets to the SUPER BOWL and the Pepsi Music Concert!!!

So, start strategizing - and Go Team!

Do Something 101

Back to school is a really hard time for kids in need. School supplies are pricey. So, Do Something about it.

We've teamed up with Staples for another year of Do Something 101. Start a school supply drive with your club this summer. Collect new school supplies and drop them off at any Staples store. We'll make sure they get in the hands of kids in your community who need them by September.

Ciara supports Do Something 101. Check out her PSA and learn how you can get involved at www.dosomething101.org

YAC Application Closes August 15

Have a say in the future of Do Something campaigns and programs! Help design and improve DoSomething.org. Fly to New York City this fall and spend 2 days with 30 amazing teens at the Do Something offices.

How?

Apply for the 2009-2010 Youth Advisory Council (YAC)!

The YAC is an integral part of the Do Something team. They steer campaigns, programs, and web and marketing strategy to get even more teens involved in social action.

Talk back. Be Heard. Make Change. Join the YAC.

Design the Classroom of the Future

The World Bank says that educating all children worldwide requires the construction of 10 million new classrooms. Architecture for Humanity responded by launching the Classroom of the Future Challenge.

They want YOU to contribute. DS Clubs are invited to collaborate with local AFH chapters or to submit designs electronically to be exhibited this fall. Check out the Education page  or e-mail me (mstevenson@dosomething.org) to get involved!

Get ready for Save Our Music!

Do Something has teamed up with Vh1 and Save the Music to empower you to fight for music education.

Music and Arts programs are suffering budget cuts nationwide. We want you to Do Something about it. Join the Save Our Music campaign and advocate in your community for a chance to win music funding, Rock Band video games, and Kodak FlipCams.

This fall, your club will receive an advocacy toolkit full of resources and project ideas to get you started. Report back for a chance to win! More details coming in September.
