Imagine your childhood without your favorite book. One with no Clifford the Big Red Dog, no The Giving Tree, no Cat in the Hat, or no Hungry Hungry Caterpillar. Ugh. But you have a chance to change all that! Start a drive with some friends and donate them to local organizations. Use this list to help you find an organization in your area.
We’ve got an ambitious goal of collecting over 500,000 books, but we can only do it with YOUR TEAM’S help! Why? Because one child in four grows up not knowing how to read & those who have access to reading materials in their homes typically fair better.
This is the fun part! Use your collective imaginations to develop a plan. Consider a high-visibility weekend event. Set up collection boxes at your school, local places of business, churches, etc. Most importantly, get the word out. Given people ample time to go through their book shelves and get boxes of old books from the closet. People will astound you with the number of books they give you. Raid your parents’ bookshelves. Talk to your school and local librarian about their unwanted books. We will share success stories as the Book Drive unfolds.
That’s amazing! Use this helpful sheet to find places to donate those books to in your community.
But, of course! You will have your fearless Epic Team over here at DoSomething.org. E-mail us any time at epic@dosomething.org.
No worries! Contact April at epic@dosomething.org.
