TURTLES

Applying for college can be stressful, we know! While the Foot Locker Scholar Athletes program could get you one step closer to your dream school, use these helpful tips below to navigate the entire process.

  1. Get active: Join extracurricular activities that you’re passionate about. Even better, take on a
leadership role (Founder, President, etc.) in a club or activity you’re really into.
  2. Get involved in volunteer work: Admission officers prefer to see commitment over a long
period of time rather than a service trip over spring break.
  3. Get your recs lined up: Figure out three teachers that you may want to ask for a
recommendation. Even after they’ve agreed, keep up the good behavior because teachers can
always withdraw their recommendations down the line.
  4. Go for that pie-in-the-sky school: What do you have to lose? Make sure you make a list for your
    must-haves in a college.
  5. Sign up for a campus tour: Hey, this place is going to be your home for the next 4 years — make
sure you like the campus, location, and overall college atmosphere before you commit.
  6. Go paperless: The Common Application or some other paperless application is a good way to
juggle all those applications; just keep track of the supplements required from each school.
  7. Show your personality: Open up when applying. Colleges are looking to learn about the person
that you are, so feel free to brag about all the amazing things you do.
  8. Be unique: When writing your college essay — or even in any college interviews — be unique. Think of a story that makes you stand out, like a focus on your volunteering experience.
  9. Don’t forget the financial aid: Along with applying for college, apply for financial aid, too. Read
up on our helpful tips to get you started.
  10. Be an early bird: Just this once! The sooner you get your application mailed in, the better. Consider using certified mail or return receipt.
  11. Get in the know: In addition to this awesome Foot Locker Scholar Athletes award, many
universities give out scholarships to upcoming freshmen as well, so if you already know what
school you want to go to, visit their website and search scholarships. See what comes up and if
    you qualify for any, APPLY!
