I-1033/Ref 71/GAY RIGHTS?!
In Washington state, as of last week we had to vote yes or no on Initiative 1033 and Referendum 71. Initiative 1033 cut property taxes but also reduces and limits the annual growth of the state, city, and county's general fund revenues. Which means that cuts will be made to our education, health, and public safety revenues. Referendum 71, if you were to vote for, gave lesbian and gay couples along with senior domestic partners the same rights as a heterosexual married couple; without the marriage.
When I talked to my mom about approving Referendum 71, she said she was voting no. Why? It was against her beliefs that gays should have the same rights. This set me off a bit because I'm bisexual and now I can't even come out to my own mother because of the fear of being rejected by her. If she can't accept my best friend for being gay, then how can she accept me?
I know that most people have their points against homosexuality, whether it be their religious beliefs, fear, or the fact that they're disgusted with it.
But whatever happened to that one rule, "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it all." :/
Now if God didn't want us to experience homosexuality, then why did he give us the power to experience these desires?
I do think we have rights. I do believe that we can do as we wish without people judging.
And hell, if they judge, like I've said before;
It just shows how shallow others are for not being able to accept change.
I could be ranting, or I could be making sense.
You tell me.
Comment as you wish. (:
