I think that the United States of Americas should have less shelters that kill the poor innocent animals . Just because no one wants to own them that moments doesn't mean that they don't deserve a place on this planet . They are innocent little creatures & they need a place to stay . Lets stop those shelters that kill them , just because there is no room for them . Lets make some room !

I agree! But I do understand that the work many shelters do is good, even if they have to euthanize animals they don't have room for, which isn't good. I say keep those shelters, but give them options for their animals BEFORE killing them because there is no room. Let's replace puppy mills with animal sanctuaries!!

Why do they have to kill animals to make room for others? What right do they have to determine who's life is more important? My local shelter kills animals on a schedule even when they have plenty of space to go around. They've even been sued because of maltreatment and they don't allow volunteers because they offer work to the criminals in the work release program at the county jail. Luckily, we have an animal rescue near by. I don't know how to go about changing a kill shelter to a no-kill shelter. Any suggestions?
I agree I think any animal should have a right too live know matter where it came from. I can see where shelters are coming from but they don't have to kill. Many shelters like Biadwee keep animals until they can find them homes. There was this dog named Chi-Chi and he was adopted after a year and a half. He got shelter, a home, love, and was turned into a prince with his own room. I think that people should create more shelters or figure out how to make do with what we have without taking innocent lives.
I agree I think its unfair that animals are just killed off because of little rooms in shelters. So I want to ask you how are you going to solve this issue?
I agree, animals are like your children you wouldn't kill a child would you? They rely on their owners to take care of them, just like a child relies on their parents to take care of them. When an animal is in a shelter, it is just like the homeless living in a shelter, but you don't see people killing homeless people because the homeless shelter is full. So why must we kill animals because the animal shelter is full?
I agree too. It's sad to see that animals are being killed everyday just because the shelter is full? Thats just plain wrong.
Animals are not on the same level as humans, to compare a human child to a dog is crazy.
Some shelters are well financed, but most are not, they dont have the room or money to keep the animal, it's just a part of life, It Cost LOTS of money PERIOD.
Lets keep all unwanted cats in a 2' x 2' cage for the rest of their lives, With very little interaction with humans and no love, it's worse than prison, is that what you want for the unwanted??? compassion some times requires some guts to do whats best for ALL.
Dear Pblinds,
Animals should have as much rights as anyone, the problem comes from people abandoning animals or people abuseing them tell they run away.
On the other hand I do agree with you parshaly on the animals living in cages there cages there hole lives but at my city shelter there is a room with toys and scratching posts for the cats that they stay in and a bigoutside pen for the dogs*.
*They come in side for the night though.
I agree. Most kill shelters try to give animals to other shelters if they are running out of room. But what happens when those shelters run out of room? We need people to foster and create new animal shelters.
I agree.Animals is our asset so we should have more Shelters that DO NOT KILL .
All of this is really good discussion and I agree: killing animals is wrong. But there are other sides and reasons to this thing. First of all, some shelters just can't afford all the animals. Especially in today's economy, shelters don't have the money to care for all these animals and people aren't donating enough to the cause. They can't keep them, and they very well can't throw them back into the cold, unforgiving streets, which may indeed be worse than death. What can they do? Second reason is some animals are just not adoptable. Some animals have been abused so much that they can never break out of their aggressive spell. These animals can't be put into a family, and what happens if they're adopted than used in dog fighting? Third, some dogs have extreme health issues. Their disease may be so bad that death may truly be better than what they're going through. And that's my conclusion. All we can do in this fight is to volunteer if we can and donate so shelters don't have to euthanize these creatures.
animals should not be killed, unless they are suffering!
