Award Description:
Campus Progress is a national effort to strengthen progressive voices on college and university campuses across America. As part of that effort, we offer funding, journalism training, technical and content support, and other assistance to a limited number of progressive student online and print publications. Here is what you need to know: * Currently our grants to student publications are in the range of $500 to $3000 per year. Campus Progress grants are disbursed on either a per semester or per year basis and are for actual, out-of-pocket expenses of the publications – for web design, printing, supplies, promotion, publication-sponsored speaking events, and other educational activities. Campus Progress grants do not support salaries or stipends for student staff members. * Campus Progress supports publications whose orientation and content furthers the mission of the Center for American Progress (as outlined at http://www.americanprogress.org/aboutus), including by expanding the diversity of voices on college campuses. * Campus Progress does not necessarily agree with all views expressed by supported publications, and nor does Campus Progress expect those publications to agree with views expressed by Campus Progress. * Members of Campus Progress-supported publications play a special role in the development of our CampusProgress.org web publication and receive access to our members-only online publications network. * Members of Campus Progress-supported publications also have the opportunity to host Campus Progress speaking events on their campuses, including events with journalists and media critics.
Eligibility Guidelines:
* Campus Progress provides grants to online and print publications run by undergraduate, graduate, and professional students at U.S. colleges and universities. Primary emphasis is on undergraduate publications. Campus Progress does not support faculty-run or staff-run campus publications. * Campus Progress requires its grantee student publications to maintain high standards of journalistic ethics and integrity. * In most cases, Campus Progress requires student publications to have or obtain a faculty advisor. * Campus Progress supports existing student publications with a track record of publishing high-quality material. * Campus Progress supports new student publications whose designated editors have demonstrated skills, potential, and achievement. * Campus Progress expects student publications to have a strategy for content development, production, dissemination, and marketing.
