Virtual Volunteering
Virtual volunteering can be done from anywhere, at anytime, and web savvy not-for-profits are always in need. Opportunities range from writing, editing, calling, web design, moderating, and lots more tech stuff that anyone under 24 can do with their eyes closed (well maybe not completely closed).
Here is part of an article written by one of Do Something's own virtual volunteers:

"Just like volunteering in person, virtual volunteering can take up as little or much time as you would like; however, unlike volunteering at a place like your local food bank, it can be done whenever you want from wherever you want. The possibilities are also endless: you could write articles (like this one!) .."

Star Scoop Feature: Ben Affleck
Ben Affleck grew up in Massachusetts, but he’s only recently seen some of the less fortunate neighborhoods in the Boston area. While preparing for the film Gone Baby Gone, Affleck says, "We did a lot of location scouting . . . and you knock on a lot of doors and you go into a lot of homes . . . and I saw the need. What I saw sort of surprised me. I saw a lot of working poor." IMDB reports that he "volunteered at the Greater Boston Food Bank in Boston on Sunday as part of the America's Second Harvest campaign, before joining fellow workers to sort food in the warehouse." Laura started Wild and Water to provide underprivileged youth in Atlanta with free swimming and water safety lessons. The swim classes also provide kids with great exercise! Wild and Water is expanding to New Orleans this summer to help even more kids.

Joy Jung, 16, CA, wins $500!

Project: Plant-a-Tree “Plant for the Planet”

Joy and her Algebra class are taking the initiative to prevent deforestation. Together, they started a campaign in their community to educate people about massive deforestation and the effects it has on the planet. This fall, Joy and her classmates will begin planting trees in their school yard to combat the loss of trees.
