Halloween Fundraising Ideas
Don't just raise candy this year! Figure out a way to use halloween activities for social good either at your school or in the local area. Think about it, you finally have a reason to talk to everyone in the neighborhood and actually have them open the door! So try some of these ideas:

  • Candy Corn in a Container: people guess the amount of candy for $1. Winner gets the candy or other prize.
  • Trick, Treat, or CANS: ask for canned food for your thanksgiving drive (warning you might want to bring a wagon, cans are heavy).
  • Haunted House or Scary Movie Night: have it at a school, community center, church and charge admission.

A Club that rocks...

Plan-It Do Something Club, OH
Project:Plan-It Earth DS Club
Plan-It Earth Do Something Club members put on their mud boots, hats, gloves: picked up their tools... and headed out for three Saturdays in a row to work for three hours sessions cleaning up Otterbein Lake. Once just a giant pit in the ground left over from a nearby housing development, the Plan-It Earth DS Club has joined forces with the local community to help turn Otterbein Lake into a community jewel. Soon Otterbein Lake will have an area for handicapped citizens to fish, a walkway for ease of traveling around the lake, and an education center with a vegetative roof (green and made of plants.) Otterbein students and professors, along with dedicated local volunteers, will be able to use the park (and claim their hand in it) for decades to come. Start a club

Featured Grant winner...

Violet Luxton , 17, CA
Project: Teen Green
When Violet and a group of friends wanted to inspire other students to think about the environmental impact of their choices, they created Teen Green, a youth leadership and environmental community action group. Working with students from neighboring schools and other community members, Teen Green has received support from both the city and school district for a variety of its projects—an organic garden for the elementary school, a natural earth building, and a new trash program. Together, Violet and the other members of Teen Green hope to educate people about the importance of environmental sustainability.
