News
Presidential Race: This Week's CliffsNotes!
The Scoop Consumer advocate Ralph Nader, who ran as the Green Party candidate in 2000, threw his hat into the race.
The Stakes
For Dems Uh-oh: Could be a problem. Some say the 2.7% of the vote Nader got probably cost Gore the presidency in that so-close-call with Dubya.
For Reps It’s a welcome challenge, especially with Dem forerunner Obama on such a roll. [article]

Go Ivy - For Free!
Another reason to study up: Brown University is eliminating tuition for students whose parents earn less than a combined $60K. Brown’s action follows similar moves by Harvard, Yale, Dartmouth and Stanford.[article]

Green or Scheme? First Plane fueled by Nuts
As airlines race to develop an alternative to jet fuel (the price of oil is now almost $100 a barrel!), Virgin Atlantic Airways tested a biofuel-powered jumbo jet on Sunday. But while it may sound like a green idea, recent studies find that almost all biofuels used today cause more greenhouse gas emissions than conventional fuels. How could that possibly be?! [article].

CelebsGoneGood Covers Global Green Pre-Oscar 2008 Bash!
Our very own Celebs Gone Good youth reporters were on the carpet at this year’s hottest Academy Award pre-party: the Global Green Pre-Oscar 2008 bash! Snapping photos and asking the tough questions were teens Moriah Harris (15) and Harmony Harris (18), who volunteered as journalists and got some exclusive eco-friendly scoop!
When asked about her views on environmental concerns, actress Salma Hayek said, “We are so fortunate right now, but we waste it.” She reminded us to make an effort for a better planet now because “we don’t know what’s going to become of the world we are in.”

Niharika Jain Wins a $500 Grant!
State
: LA   Age: 17
Project: GUTS (Generation United to Succeed) Youth Leadership Summit
Description: Inspired by a visit to the YWCA Family Violence Shelter in eigth grade, Niharika founded the YWCA Youth Board of Northwest Louisiana in the Spring 2005. Made up entirely of high school students, the goal of the group is to raise awareness of domestic violence and helping its victims. The Board's long-term projects include tutoring underprivileged children in an inner-city neighborhood and adopting senior citizens for a year at a local retirement home. As part of her work with the Youth Board Niharika, initiated GUTS (Generation United to Succeed), a youth leadership summit where 200 high school students met the city's mayoral candidates and speakers on issues from diversity to domestic violence. Natasha plans on using the Plum grant money to make GUTS 2007 even bigger and better then last year.

Sports Sports Sports
Team Do Something is training through the winter so we can hit the spring and summer seasons hard this year. In addition to training, Coach George has already begun some intense preseason scouting of other not-for-profit, NYC based, co-ed intramural sports teams (think spygate Boston Fans).

The only thing holding up the team right now is which sport we should be playing. Here are some of our options so far: Ultimate Frisbee, Soccer, Kick Ball, Dodge Ball, Soft Ball, Cross Country Running.
So please give us some ideas!
