Learn all about the invisible victims of the Iraq War In the past five years of U.S. occupation in Iraq, more than a million U.S. soldiers have been deployed to the country, with 4,000 losing their lives and 29,395 suffering injuries. Meanwhile, countless survivors are quietly dealing with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
What is PTSD, exactly? Ethan Brown, journalist-author of hyped hip-hop tomes Queens Reigns Supreme and Snitch, knows. He has seen it first-hand, having interviewed afflicted military men and women for his upcoming exposé on this oft-untreated condition. Get the scoop here and send a note to a soldier here.

Join Nigel Barker's quest to save the seals
The America's Next Top Model judge and friend of Celebs Gone Good has recently traveled to the Arctic and back, then back again -- all in the name of raising awareness of Canada's law-allowing slaughter of baby seals. Follow his journey via reports in his own words, adorable (and some very sad) photos, and behind-the-scenes video. Says Nigel: “It weighs very heavy on my shoulders knowing these seals will be killed in the most horrific way. Seal fur is beautiful, and it looks fashionable on seals. There’s no need for it to be on us.”

Beach lover Allie Hayford, 17, wins $500 grant
Project: Clean and Healthy Beaches, Maine
By hosting 22 of her own beach clean-ups and three community ones, Allie has spearheaded the removal of 901 pounds of garbage from her local beaches. Cleaning up Maine's coastline has resulted in not only a healthier home for the area's wildlife, but one for Vacationland's beachgoers as well. To further promote her efforts, Allie's Plum grant money will go toward funding programs that will enable local youth to become better ocean stewards. |
Veterans Memorial Middle School gets pumped up
Project: Got Fitness?
The Do Something Club at Veterans Memorial in Blue Island, Ill., held a week-long fitness and healthy eating event involving hundreds of students, staff, and community members. Their State Representative was there showing his support, and he must have been impressed by what he saw, since student representatives will soon be headed to D.C. to share their get-fit tips with members of Congress!
