Hey [[Email]] !

Showers aren’t all that April brings… This year’s Earth Day (4/22) will be the most widely celebrated yet, and April 25’s National Day of Silence shines a light on anti-LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) harassment.

Green-ify your Prom:
Five ways to make the big dance environmentally sound

1. Dress for eco success. Go organic, go vintage.
2. Borrow the blooms. Stay local with the flowers. Or better yet rent a plant.
3. Travel with your posse. Arrive like the stars: in a hybrid. Or, at the very least least, carpool/limopool it.
4. Provide a delicious AND healthy dinner. Get organic local produce for the meal, and look into hiring eco-caterers.
5. Go paperless AND save trees. Use an evite or facebook event.
6. Make prom matter. Give some proceeds to charity, donate used prom dresses, give extra food to local soup kitchen.

Primary Primer

After weeks of no primaries, the polls reopen on Tuesday, April 22
The States: For Dems Pennsylvania || For Reps Pennsylvania
The Stakes: For Dems A lot. Obama’s ahead (1648 delegates to Hil’s 1508) and Clinton has to win by a sizable margin to justify continuing the primary fight. Record voter registration in the state, thanks to many new, young voters, could help out Obama. A total of 188 delegates are up for grabs. For Reps Not much, since McCain is the presumptive Republican nominee. However, he's been having trouble amassing the same kind of campaign cash (and media commotion) as his Democratic opponents, and some worry this may hurt his odds come November.

Do Something and Miley: Perfect Together at Zootopia
The biggest pop radio station in the nation, Z100 (a.k.a. New York’s WHTZ, 100.3 FM), is supporting Do Something by making us a part of their summer concert extravaganza, Zootopia. The lineup for this mega event on May 17 is a who’s who of 2008 pop, from headliner Miley Cyrus to Jonas Brothers, American Idol champ Jordin Sparks, One Republic, Simple Plan, Sara Bareilles, Gavin DeGraw – and for your older sibs and parents: the first reunion gig for ‘Nsync forerunners New Kids on the Block.

Though the show’s already a sell-out, those seeking free ducats are invited to come to the pre-show festivities at Zvillage in the Izod Center’s parking lot from noon to 6 p.m., where there will be opportunities to win a pair. Also on deck: free performances from Bareilles, Flyleaf, Push Play and Miley’s brother’s band, Metro Station, autograph sessions from some of Zootopia’s stars – and several Do Something stations promoting voter registration and awareness for a variety of causes. Do Something and the Dirty Hand Caravan

Do Something is proud to be a part of the planning committee for the “Dirty Hands Caravan”. Up to 300 participants will board 6 bio-diesel buses at the close of the Coachella music festival and caravan 1800 miles to Jazz Fest in New Orleans, stopping along the way to learn about a vast array of social issues and take part in volunteer projects. The social action bus tour is the brain child of actor, director, and social activist Sean Penn. Do Something was brought on by Sean himself to plan social action opportunities in each stop along the bus route from Coachella, California to New Orleans, Louisiana leaving a trail of positive change and inspiration in its wake.
