Ten-year-old Will Phillips is making news for refusing to pledge allegiance in his school. His reasoning? Because he says he can’t pledge allegiance to a country that discriminates against gays:
"I've always tried to analyze things because I want to be lawyer," Will said. "I really don't feel that there's currently liberty and justice for all."
After asking his parents whether it was against the law not to stand for the pledge, Will decided to do something. The next day his classmates stood up to recite the pledge, he remained sitting down, and did it again every day that week, until his angry substitute teacher sent him to the principal’s office.
Predictably, fellow students have taunted the kid and called him a "gaywad," but Will doesn't see his quiet act of protest ending any time soon.
Inspired to take action for gay rights?

This boy is amazing in my book! It's people like him who restore my faith in humanity when I feel I have none left, whatsoever. He's so young- but rather intelligent- and he stands strong in his convictions and doesn't let his classmates' ignorance and discrimination cause him to sway in his beliefs like a lot of kids do and HAVE these days (a major problem we have...)
Maybe we do have hope, after all. =] Will Phillips is an inspiration!!
