Glenn Beck rally comes with backlash

By now you've probably heard all about media personality Glenn Beck and his D.C. rally this past weekend. Beck wants to reclaim the civil rights movement, so he decided to speak from the same steps as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on the anniversary of the March on Washington (which featured the famous "I Have a Dream" Speech). 300,000 people attended, many of whom identify as part of the new Tea Party movement.
But the Tea Party's involvement has raised concern by the NAACP, the nation's oldest and largest grassroots civil rights organization. The group is so worried about discriminatory sects of the tea party that they established Tea Party Tracker, a watchdog website that closely reports on the activities on those that follow this new political movement.
Backlash against the rally was peaceful, so all voices had a chance to be heard this weekend. Rev. Al Sharpton walked with a "Reclaim the Dream" march that was more of a memorial to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. "We will not react to those who try to distort [Dr King's] dream," said Rev. Al Sharpton regarding the rally that he did not support.
What can you do?
- Organize a rally expressing your position regarding this issue. Do you support the Tea Party's mission to reduce government in the name of civil rights? Or do you believe that civil rights is achieved with help from the government?
- Get those around you to support your call for civil rights.

I think it was direspectful...
I don't believe it was disrespectful at all. Glenn Beck has said that the rally was not about politics but rather went beyond politics and was about restoring honor for our country by turning to God. The rally focused on Religion and God. As for the date, the rally wasn't meant to be held on the anniversary of Dr. King's speech, it just hapened to fall on that date and Dr. King was honored during the rally and Alvida King, Dr.King's niece gave a speech. The number of people who attened was not 300,000, it was over 500,000.
I do believe that there has to be a proper balance of government and people. Also, wasn't America founded on the principles of religious freedom? Bringing America to god isn't all that free.
