A Light at the End of High School: Standing Up For Gay Teens

In one way or another, high school is a living hell for all of us. We have all dealt with being bullied, harassed, stressed, confused, and just plain lost at one time or another. Some of us more than others get the brunt of adolescent brutality, many in which include teens in the gay and lesbian community. The world is taking a stand, though, through viral videos.

Advice columnist and gay activist Dan Savage has launched the It Gets Better Project, focusing on telling gay teenagers that life does get better right after you get your high school diploma. After being heartbroken over the suicide of Indiana high schooler Billy Lucas, who was the target of much bullying and harassment, the writer created the YouTube channel so adults that had to endure the same hardships during their youth could share their stories of post-school love and success.

LGBT kids need hope and assurance that things will be okay. We don’t want these talented, charismatic, good people become another sad statistic. Share this with those in need, or even post a video yourself! Just remember: things will get better.
