Plant a Fish: Hands-on marine conservation

Plant a Fish is a new organization developed by Fabien Cousteau (yes, Jacques' grandson!) which is driven to educate people through hands-on experience with underwater ecology and restoration. The idea is that when individuals feel connected to nature and its beauty, they're more likely to do what they can to preserve it and encourage others to do the same.
The organization kicked off its work on June 1st, in celebration of World Oceans Day and Jacques Cousteau's 100th birthday! Now, Plant a Fish is reaching all across the world with partnerships and programs to conserve and restore underwater ecosystems.
Fabien warns:
- 60% of our world’s fish stocks have been consumed in the past 50 years.
- less than 10% of the big fish species are left in the world.
- fishers must think as farmers not hunters.
Plant a Fish is starting to take action by re-planting oysters in New York Harbor, sea turtles in El Salvador, mangroves in South Florida, corals in the Maldives.
What can you do?
