We’ll admit it – we love MTV's Teen Mom. But it constantly raises the question, “Do we support and glorify teen pregnancy?”
Take Farrah for example. She has endured so much this season, that it's hard to believe she is still standing. Not only does she have a lot of issues with her mother, (one being domestic violence) she also lost her baby’s father two months before Sophia was born. She is doing it all on her own, with little help from anyone.
Domestic violence and abuse seem to be in issue with most of the girls on the show as well. Amber has been seen hitting, pushing, and verbally abusing her baby’s father, Gary. Amber told Dr. Drew that Leah often pushes her and Gary apart, and screams “No!”, when they are being affectionate.
And how about Catelynn? She and Tyler decided to give their baby up for an open adoption, because they didn’t feel they were ready for the responsibility. Catelynn’s mother was also seen cursing at her and verbally and emotionally abusing her all season long. Tyler’s father, who is also Catelynn’s stepfather, is seen in and out of rehab and prison.
Seeing the daily struggles these girls go through, teens probably get a lot out of this. It certainly gets them thinking, and talking! Dr. Drew conducted a survey with the following results:
