UN honors 101 who died in Haitian earthquake

“In the midst of such suffering, the tragedy in Haiti did not spare those who had volunteered and had come from so many different countries to help the people and government of Haiti,” stated Ali Abdussalam Treki of Libya, president of the General Assembly, during his eulogy on Tuesday.
This week, the United Nations honored its 101 employees who died 8 weeks ago during the January earthquake in Haiti. These employees came from about 30 countries with the hope of making a change in a country where they knew they could and where they knew their help would be needed. Among those killed include Hedi Annabi, a 30-year veteran of the UN as well as head of mission, as well as Luiz Carlos da Costa, his deputy, with majority losing their lives at the peacekeeping Haitian headquarters at the Christopher Hotel where they worked and made a difference every day.
Gregory Greene has set up a foundation to support education in Haiti in memory of his twin brother, Andrew Greene, aid to Mr. Annabi and another casualty in the earthquake.
