HIV vaccine trial brings new hope

A new vaccine may give hope to those suffering from HIV, the virus that leads to AIDS. The new vaccine, designed to prevent HIV has shown some promising results in a Thailand-based trial involving over 16,000 people.

Researchers claim that people who received a series of the vaccine were 31% less likely to get HIV, compared to those on a placebo.

Jerome Kim, the HIV vaccines product manager for the U.S. Army has stated that even though the effectiveness of the newest vaccine was “modest” in this recent trial, based on the failure of vaccine trials in the past, “we would have thought an HIV vaccine wasn’t possible.”

Still, many are quick to add that a lot more research is necessary and highlight that the vaccine did not prevent everyone from being infected.

If you don’t want to wait for a vaccine, you can still learn more about HIV/AIDS in the U.S. and see what you can to do stop the spread of AIDS.
