Why won't Lindsay Lohan apologize?

Lindsay, Lindsay, Lindsay. The courts grounded you before, and you didn't listen. We're not saying we agree or disagree with your jail sentence of 3 months - your tearful face got to us. However, we have to think of your millions of admirers that saw you refuse to take alcohol and drug abuse seriously.
What shows that a person is sorry in this media-driven age? There are poorly received apologies (Tony Hayward, Gen. McChrystal, Joe Barton) and there are positively received ones (the Pope, Jim Joyce, David Cameron). Why did some go over better?
People respond better to apologies when people take responsibility for the damage they've done. Instead of saying, "I'm sorry that Galarraga didn't get his perfect game," he said "I cost that kid a perfect game." Galarraga and baseball fans seemed more than willing to forgive.
When will Lindsay Lohan take responsibility for her actions? In 2005, she claimed to be a passenger in a car she crashed. When she was proven to be the driver, she said, "I'm not a good liar." But she lied again about speeding the next year while under the influence. And again about cocaine discovered in her pockets in another traffic stop.
It's not about the drinking and drugging. Life is full of mistakes and people can learn from them. This is about the apologizing Lindsay hasn't done. Imagine the respect "I am an addict. I have made many mistakes. I'm sorry for hurting myself and others," would earn her..
What can you do?

- Remember that a drug or alcohol problem is difficult, dangerous and scary no matter how famous you are or aren't. Support someone in a tough place.
