two horses injured, one euthanized, on kentucky derby friday and sat.

Animal Welfare

yesterday on friday a colt named Chelokee broke his leg in the same exact place Barbaro broke his leg, but on the other leg, in the Barbaro Stakes race. They are currently trying to save the colt. He was once Barbaro's stablemate. Later in the Kentucky Derby race, a filly named Eight Belles, the second place horse behind Big Brown, the winner. After the race the filly fell and broke both ankles. She was unable to be saved, and died seconds after the race.

Two horses dead in one racing event. Should more precations be taken in racing?

The saddest thing: These horses love to run. It's terrible when they put heart and soul into it and break their bodies...and still try to run.

There needs to be restrictions

I have 9 horses, so I have a lot of experience with them. When horses are two years old, they aren't fully developed. I have a 2 year old and I would never even think of riding him like that. There could be restrictions, like only being able to race a horse after a certain age, like 5 years old. It isn't a coincidence that Eight Bells ankles collapsed and that Barbaro broke his leg and had to be euthanized, it is because they were raced too young! To do something about this, right to the governor of Kentucky and tell him what you think at http://governor.ky.gov/contact.htm.

new regualtions

horses aren'y fully mature until they are five years old. why are we feeding them drug to make them faster? eight bells was pushed too hard. i, as a horse trainer and lover myself, could see that. the jockey whipped her (it dosn't hurt them) and pushed her too fast. i think big brown was pushed hard as well. her bones that wern't fully developed and snapped, and that was that.

i love horse racing, but doing this all for money is wrong. make it safer!

Not right

This is not cool man.

horses love to race.

but sometimes people take it too far. too much training kills these poor things, as well as too little, because they don't know how to run and then hurt themselves. you aren't supposed to start riding until after three years, so why are these babies racing around?

make racing safer.

Horrible

That story is all over the internet too. Horses shouldn't be used for A. Gambling or B. racing. Horses are supposed to be free and independent. They shouldn't have to go in circles all day. They aren't race cars, they're animals and just like humans, animals have feelings too.

Thats sad

Not right dude that is so horrible that these thing happen and i think the track conditions partially are to blame.
