May 6th is World Asthma Day and May is Asthma Awareness Month. There’s tons you can do, no matter how limited your time.
Idea 1
Set up a display of asthma information, treatments and the definition of control in your school, community center and/or church.
Idea 2
Publicize World Asthma Day and/or Asthma Awareness Month with posters, billboards, stickers or ribbons.
Idea 3
Contact politicians and celebrities with asthma to encourage them to support the cause.
Idea 4
Write an article highlighting this serious illness. Interview people with asthma to provide you with insight, and don’t forget to include the facts.
Idea 5
Organize an exhibition of pictures and artwork on the theme of asthma control.
Idea 6
Encourage members of the public to participate in a World Asthma Day/Asthma Awareness Month “Drawing Breath” competition – How might breath look if you could see it? The judging and award presentation could become an event that may attract media attention.
Idea 7
Organize a car-free or quit-smoking day.
Idea 8
Present an award to smoke and allergen-free establishments.
Idea 9
Stage a public poetry competition, inviting poems on asthma and asthma control. Then publish a collection of the top 20. The judging and presentation of awards could also provide an opportunity for media exposure.
Idea 10
Hold a World Asthma Day/Asthma Awareness Month sponsored walk, run, swim, or softball game. Invite well-known athletes from your area to take part alongside asthma patients from all walks of life.
Idea 11
Hold a World Asthma Day/Asthma Awareness Month talent show or musical concert with performances from local asthma patients. Highlight woodwind and brass instruments. And, to encourage news stories, select a concert title linked to asthma, or invite celebrity musicians with asthma to participate.
