Project Description
The Community Service Council at Fairfield University recognizes that hunger is a major issue affecting thousands of people just minutes from our campus. Our project, Mission: Thanksgiving, will provide a special Thanksgiving meal to low-income families and individuals from Bridgeport, CT who frequent local shelters, soup kitchens and food pantries. The event is aimed at raising campus awareness of the significant problem of hunger facing the 30% of people living below the poverty threshold in Bridgeport. With the help of students, staff and faculty, we will serve the dinner and provide hospitality to the guests. Our target is to serve approximately 200 people in a special events facility on campus. We will be working in conjunction with Sodexho Food Services who will be providing the meal at cost. We are applying for a Plum Grant in order to subsidize the cost of the meal. We will be doing additional fundraising as it is estimated that the event will cost $3000 (includes food, transportation, publicity, misc.).
