Over 1 billion people in the world live on less than 1 dollar a day. Together with Millennium Promise we can do something by fundraising to end extreme poverty in villages in Africa.
When we bring a respect for public property rights to our political and economic systems, we will have a society that assures ALL citizens a base income equal to their share of the natural resource wealth of the planet.
Instead of just giving money to low-income individuals, volunteer your time to empower communities to improve their health and environment through Amigos de las Americas programs. Check out www.amigoslink.org.

If you haven't heard about microcredit, now's the time to educate yourself on the concept. Over the past several years, it has proven to be one of the most successful tools to stop poverty that society has. Essentially, microcredit is giving small-scale loans to entrepreneurs in developing countries.

this is an amazing organization. i have been donating to this program since i was in the 3rd grade, get the brochure and you can read the stories, how not even a cow but only a chicken can help a family so much, i urge you to participate in this organization and learn how giving can really make you feel
Many of us think that giving money to impoverished areas is the answer, and although helpful, it is not the solution to global extreme poverty. What really needs to be donated is education on how to create and maintain stable economies in these problem areas of the world. You may ask yourself “How the heck am I supposed to do all that?” And it is a valid question, for such a task is meant for the experts. However there are ways for everyday people to promote market education in these locations: Give a gift that continues to give.
1. Donate an animal: Giving a farm animal to a poor family is the perfect way to spark self-sufficiency in a community. The family receives a cow-->the cow gives off milk-->the milk is sold-->money is made-->a bull is bought--> cow+ bull= calf… the cycle continues.
2. Plant a tree: Planting a tree in an impoverished area may seem too simple to help, but the truth is a tree can make a difference. Fruit bearing trees are not only a source of income but are also helpful in preventing soil erosion [a problem in many drier developing countries such as those in Africa]. Less soil erosion means better soil to plant other natural sources of income, like cotton.
However these gifts are hard to come by, BUT there is a solution! The Heifer Foundation, an organization that lives by the “if you give a man a fish he’ll eat for a day, but teach him to fish and he will eat for a lifetime” tenet, specializes in ‘gifts with a legacy.’ Through donating to Heifer you can chose what impoverished region gets your money and how it is spent, i.e. on an animal or a tree. Plus, your contribution will be sent over with an educator who will help the receivers use their gift to its fullest ability and instruct the family on care for the animal or tree.
Respect public property rights, too
