What can I do with all of these grocery bags?

Global Warming

I understand that recycling can make a huge impact on slowing global warming down, so heres the thing, instead of me throwing grocery bags away I save them, but now they are overcrowing my kitchen. I have tried giving them to grocery stores but the 1 I went 2 is'nt interested. regardless to what happens I wont throw them away, but I need some pointers here. What do u guys think I should do? (oh and their plastic bags.)

cloth bags

insteed of useing plastic/paper bags buy a couple cloth ones. you can use them every time you go shopping.they also dont take up lots of space in your kitchen. thats a big bonus!

grocery bags problem

dont use them! grocery bag are banned in many countrys they clog land fills and most are not able to decompose i myself use reuseable totes that you can by at most stores the ones i bought cost less than a buck and if you like using grocery bags for other things learn to use something a little better for the enviroment.
Grimm out

Also

I don't know if you have cats or not but I use thoses extra bags to put dirty cat litter. Or that hamster mulch stuff when my hamster's cage needed cleaned. Or to pick up trash you find outside because it isn't gonna pick up itself and you dont want to touch that w/ your bare hands. Or use it as storage.

Stop & Shop

At my local stop & shop, they have this big green bin where you can recycle your old plastic bags. you don't get money or anything, but you are still making a difference.

Another use

I am not sure if this was mentioned already:

Your grocery bags can replace garbage bags. They may hold less, but you're placing them into good use (and not to mention saving money).

When you are at the market, when possible, you should ask for paper bags instead, because you can recycle them. At Whole Foods, you save five cents per grocery bag you bring in to hold your purchases. You should also check these out: http://www.greenergrassdesign.com/thenewshoppingbag_susanbijl_large.html. They're a bit expensive, but you won't have to add to the growing collection.

Plastic Bag Solutions

There are many ways that you can reuse plastic bags. My Mother saves all of our plastic bags and I put my gym clothes for school in them. But, I'm bringing a canvas bag to the grocery store next time.

Check out how are company recycles. www.ecoradionetwork.com

grocery plastic bags

I take my plastic bags to the Salvation Army. They are always in the market for plastic bags and hangers. They are always so grateful.

Grocery Bags

Take them to your local thrift stores that support veterans or children's hospitals--they re-use them and it helps off-sets operating costs.

also try not using them...

At my local Trader Joes, anyone who uses a reusable bag (like this tote that kiera kninghtley uses - http://www.dosomething.org/celebsgonegood/notaplasticbag) enters a raffle to win Trader Joe's gift certificates each month.

I know its hard when you're just stopping by the store on your way home, but I'm really going to try to plan on bringing a reusable bag! They save the environment and make a statement.

100 billion

I was watching a CBS special that talked about plastic bags, and for the most part these are the most difficult form of plastic to recycle because sorting them out of other trash is nearly impossible.
some other facts:

They take about 1000 years to decompose in a landfill

Americans consume aprx. 100 billion bags per year

These bags are cheap for super markets $.01 per bag but cost city taxpayers $.19 (environment clean up, processing cost).

To be honest the real solution for bags is to avoid them at all costs, bring a canvas bag or push your supermarket to use s biodegradable option instead.

Recycle plastic grocery bags.

Hey. :]
Good question.
Plastic grocery bags are acually recyclable. You can bring them to any major dump and they should have bins signifiying for plastic bags. Sometimes plastic grocery bags have a recycle wheel on them. I think that they are HDPE's and are 2's.

It seems to be hard !

Now i am at 1st position in google in the new seo contest after getting 19th rank in last globa lwarming contest my site is

sorry, also if your plastic

sorry, also if your plastic bag has a number 4 on the bottom, it is recyclable.

I always have the same

I always have the same problem: I keep all my plastic bags, but even if I use them as garbage bags, they end up piling up pretty quickly and I always have too many. BUT it's still worth saving them because there are lots of times when they come in handy. For example, every time I move (and since I'm in college, I move back and forth from the dorms pretty often), I pack a lot of stuff in the bags. It's cool if you don't have enough suitcase space, or if you don't have boxes. Okay, so it's not quite convenient, but it's a good way to make use of excess plastic bags. Also, I use bags to take my lunch to work, or if I ever need to carry something that doesn't fit in my handbag.

If they are plastic bags,

If they are plastic bags, look at the bottom of the bag. If it has a number 2 on it surrounded by a recycling symbol, that means it is recycable so you can just stick it in your blue recycling bin along with other plastics.
You can also reuse them. If you know you are going to be buying something that can fit in a bag, why get another one when you can easily carry one you already have and then feel good about reusing them. It's essentially the same as recycling.

Whole Foods has plastic bag recycling

i've been to a Whole Foods Market that has bins for recycling your plastic grocery bags. I'm not sure if they are at every location, but it might be worth it to check out the one near you.

I keep all my bags for my

I keep all my bags for my daughter's daycare. They always need extras, maybe you should contact one and work out an arrangement.

Ten things that governments should do

Did a little searching and thinking

Hey,
here are some ideas I found and came up with after searching google for a bit:

• Cut bags into strips and crochet, knit, weave, or needlepoint a door mat, or a tub or shower mat.

• Wear between your socks and shoes to keep your feet dry whether your shoes stay dry or not.

• You can freeze food in bread sacks, it just won't keep as well as heavier plastic. If you have food you'll use up within a month, it's wasteful to use expensive freezer bags. Save those for the long term storage.

• Use larger ones to line trash cans.

• Use as disposable gloves for tasks that don't need fine finger use.

• Cover a paint brush with plastic bags when you go for a break, or even overnight. Make sure the bag is closed tightly and your paint won't dry out on the brush.

• Carry one or more with you when you go walking to pick up aluminum cans, trash or treasure.

• Keep grocery bags in your car to keep trash off the ground

• If you wrinkle them up, they are good packing material when moving, sending packages, or storing Christmas stuff.

• Put dirty rags in a plastic grocery bag and tie a knot with the handles and dump in laundry bag without fear of making everything else smelly or dirty.

• Use dark garbage bag to cover expensive stuff sitting on back seat or behind front seats in your car.

• Use plastic bags instead of plastic wrap to put pizza or other food in the refrigerator.

• Return them to grocery store: sometimes they give money for them (like 5 cents each).

• Use them when walking your dog to clean up deposits. With your hand inside the bag, pick up the pile, then turn the bag inside out while still on your hand, tie and drop in the trash.

• Sponge paint with them instead of buying an expensive sea sponge. Crumple, dip in roller pan, dab on paper, and apply randomly to the wall.

Grocery bags

Ever since I can remember my mother has also saved up her plastic bags from visits to the market. She usually uses them as trash bags, rather than buying the “specialized” garbage bags for around the house. They fit really well into small wastebaskets and can be hung on doors for collecting random trash around the house.
Also a good idea to keep the number of bags you have at bay would be to use mesh or canvas bags to carry your groceries home. It’s much better environmentally than using paper or plastic bags and also saves closet space!
