Uproar over gay marriage ban overturn

Just one day after the highest court in California ruled there was no legally justifiable reason why the state should withhold the institution of marriage because of a couple's sexual orientation, opponents vowed to redouble their efforts to make sure wedding bells never ring for gay couples in the nation's most populous state. Even the pope chimed in to the debate from Vatican City today, stressing the Roman Catholic Church's position that only unions between a man and a woman are moral. To date, 26 states have approved constitutional amendments banning same-sex marriage. Massachusetts is the only other state to legalize gay marriage, something it did in 2004. Meanwhile, same-sex couples across California are making plans to tie the knot, including celebrities Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi.

Obese are climate change culprits too

Obesity contributes to global warming, or so says a study out of London. Researchers found that more fuel is required to transport obese people and the food they eat. The problem is that a large amount of greenhouse gas emissions stem from agriculture and cars. As the world population continues to swell, literally, the problem will only worsen. At least 400 million adults worldwide are obese. The World Health Organization (WHO) projects that by 2015, 2.3 billion adults will be overweight and more than 700 million will be obese.
