See It: The Community being helped
The Arrive Alive Campaign is aimed at mostly middle school student. The goal of the campaign is to reach and instill these practices in the students before they begin driving and peer pressure sets in. In order to really impact them I think it would be effective to hold week long “Spirit Weeks” to implement car and seatbelt safety. These spirit weeks would include educational assemblies that would consist of quest speakers, educational videos and giveaways such as Arrive Alive bracelets or T-shirts donated by the Missouri Collation for Roadway Safety. The spirit week would also include a fun and educating activity everyday that would get all students involved and at the same time teach them about car safety.
On the first day of the week would be the opening assembly when you would inform the children of the week to come. It would be an ideal time to hand out bracelets and let them wear them throughout the week.
The second day would be signing of the pledge cards that are attainable through the Missouri Collation of Roadway Safety web site. The cards simply state that the signer pledges to wear their seatbelt before driving in a car and will make it mandatory for all passengers.
On the third day of the spirit week members of the Arrive Alive team would stand outside in the parking lot and hand out smarties candy to those who wore their seatbelts and dum dum suckers to those who forgot and remind them to buckle up. The dum dum suckers would have a note on them also reminding them.
The forth day of the campaign would involve the whole school students and teachers alike. This activity is called Dec-Your-Doors. Each classroom will be given a box of supplies and rolls of papers and encouraged to decorate their door showing how they practice car and seatbelt safety. The doors will be judged and the winning classroom from each grade will be awarded prizes at the grand finale assembly.
The last day of the campaign will be the grand finale assembly. Our schools are spilt up very strange and the Middle school is 5th-8th grade. Considering the significant emotional and mental differences between the ages we will hold two separate assemblies, one for 5th-6th and another for 7th-8th.
